Dodgy Day Round 4 29/11/14

Missed it by that much...
Its my daughters 3rd birthday so I'm out for this one. I was hoping as I read my way through that you guys would settle on the Sunday but Murphy's law.

I am looking forward to meeting more of you guys, the more it talk to Roger at coffee and Captain Nate, the more I realize the depth of experience on the forum. Crapweasel, Roger says you are "The Man" to talk to about the water spotting on mine.

I'll hopefully catch a few more of you at weekend coffee or the MX5 Plus open day.

Bring your daughter along! I have a 7 yo at home who loves dodgy days, heaps of cars and people to talk to. Plus older kids get to play on some of his toys

I was hoping for Sunday too, but I can make Saturday work easily enough with a little juggling. It's in the calendar now, so that's set!

I can bring my megre tool collection just in case, but I think the pros will have it sorted.

Put me down for bringing the softdrink (post any requests if you're picky) and other healthfoods such as chips and lollies. :mrgreen:

We'll also need to start a jobs list. Like I said I have a few things I wouldn't mind getting done at some point and this would be a good chance to get some quality help, so if I can get the kity organised in time, I would like to try to do the following:
* Coilovers (+ corner weight)
* Intercooler
* Foamectomy

I don't want to hog the day though, and can imagine there just might not be time to do all 3, I'll take what I can get!

steampunk - 3kg chicken wings, hot sauce, tools, jack, car stands, witty banter
corners - WeberQ
magpie - venue, water, shade, camera, witty banter, 6 car stands, 2 ramps, large and small trolley jacks
Crapweasel - a buffer, a bunch of polishing pads, microfibre cloths and an array of polishing products.
Corners - possible buffing services

Big Jobs
ManiacLachy - Coilovers (+ corner weight). No issues doing this, take about 4 hours at a rough guess.
ManiacLachy - Intercooler. What do you need done, Lokiel has lots of experience in this area. Would need to be done after coilovers/corner weight.
ManiacLachy - Foamectomy. Any attendees willing to help with this?

Requires an electric breadknife (seriously, it's the best tool for cutting the foam) so make sure this is done after lunch otherwise the bread may taste funny.

Sounds like a party is forming!

The intercooler job would be replacing the SE's postage stamp sized FMIC with one that actually does it's job.

Involves removing the bumper, cutting the hard pipes fitting the new one, and fabricating a pair of brackets. A job Lokiel knows well :wink:

Not sure what we use to cut the pipes, I think Simon did his with a hack saw, but there's got to be a better way. Fabing the brackets should just be drilling and bending a couple of aluminium strips.

Vice, metal bender and a small press brake will be available as well as a selection of drill bits up to 13mm. Plus there is an air body saw, air grinder and other cutting implements including a sledge hammer.

You would need to bring the aluminiun bar that would be used as well as a selection of nut bots (I do have some but not a large assortment).

ManiacLachy don't be worried, there will be lots of other small jobs being done. Big jobs need a bit of planning to make sure that the right people/resources are available.

Coilovers could be done first whilst another car is corner weighted.

If the coilovers are done using the MCA method it will take a few hours. Changing the coilovers is quick, setting them up properly is time consuming. However, you will appreciate the ride so much more.

The Foamectomy as well as the intercooler could be done concurrently. However, these jobs cannot be done concurrently with the corner weighting as the car needs to be as it would be on the road (including driver weight/fuel etc). In the afternoon it could be corner weighted.

If coming I will get some stuff for the BBQ like sausages, onions etc etc :wink:

Count me in, a good excuse for a drive down the range. I have no mechanical skills to bring so, I will just drop in to say hi and to check out the cars etc...
