Beavis yes you could however you will still need to have the car tuned on a dyno.

sailaholic is correct I will have it tuned on a race fuel E85. There is too much risk of bad quality fuel and I will not risk the engine. The sensor should adjust for a bad batch of E85 out of the bowser, but it will only make adjustments based on the initial E85 tune and the 98 tune.
I will only use E85 on the track so I will buy it in 205ltr drums, that should be enough for a track day.

I'm going to leave the brand of fuel decision in the hands of the tuner. However as you have observed I will be able to run it on 98 anyway irrespective of the E85 that is used.

I do run E85 in my red NA not aways affectionately referred to as the 'Turbonator'. When you speak of N Dann running this fuel, most lately that was probably in this car as it was with him for an EXTENDED period for the fuel mapping project, among other things. We had specific goals since I wanted to enjoy both tooling around to work and other things in a reasonably well mannered, but non boring road car, as well as a challenging (even exhilarating) track car. This required dual fuel maps run by a Megasquirt ECU that allows me to use pump E85 (70 octane minimum) or petrol (98 of course) with the flick of a switch.
It had its first outing at LS on Sept 13, managing a 63 sec lap (with my son pedalling it for the 1st time), ran all day while we tag teamed it, and I drove it sedately home. All this from a n AVO turbo N Dann exhausted but otherwise stock (unopened) SNC B6 with walbro fuel pump and big injectors. Apart from the drive home from Newcastle the week before that, I have not run it on 98 since, and can't find a reason to with Caltex E85 at $1.28 at my last top up:)
BTW Angus, I bought the standard exhaust from you (for the replacement '89 I drove whilst waiting for the 'Turbonator's transformation, so more info if you want.
