Went to Phillip Island as I wanted to take the WRX back to see how much quicker it is with the new set up.
It was pissing down rain, really wet, standing water on the track in the morning. Then by the 3rd session it dried up. I didn't get one clean lap in the whole session, but managed a 1:49.2. Then after countless delays they let us out for the next dry run, and it started raining at turn one. Very pissed off. Have to wait another month to try again. I am not going to put on new tyres yet, they are pretty bad, but can't afford new tyres. Car feels good, and it gets around the corners pretty quick.

176km/h minimum at turn one, that's up there with MX5 speeds.
Top speed is 225km/h.

Finally have a video up of the NA8B 1:50.1 lap of Phillip Island.
4th gear was popping out, so had to drive with one hand, and hold 4th. Also was my first day doing heal and toe. This time would have to be up there with non turbo times from in an MX5.
And as far as I know, it is the fastest MX5 with stock 1.8 motor, ecu and brakes.

Funny I couldn't sell the car for $8,000. Considering what it could do.

Went back to Phillip Island. Wet, again... Got one semi dry session. 1:49.2, again.

Given the conditions, I was happy with the time. Fastest WRX, and 3rd outright to an R35 by 0.03 seconds.

Will have to have some luck with the weather one day.

I went to Phillip Island in the WRX with PIARC. It was the most I have dríven the car since owning it. I did 8 sessions by 2:30, then called it quits due to no rubber. I had no drama's, except tyres.
The front tyre had canvas showing, so swapped all tyres diagonally, then swapped left to right. I think I swapped tyres 3 times, as they kept wearing to canvas on the front right especially.
The Z211 on the car are considered more of a street tyre. They are half the price of the Z222 that is the control tyre. So I am expecting the car to be a couple of seconds faster with new tyres.
Best I managed was a 1:48.5. There just wasn't enough grip.

It is a different beast to drive to an MX5. The understeer on corner exits is really bad. I tried some different lines and trail braking around to the apex seemed to work. But it was a fine line of breaking traction while turning it in. The best fun is standing on the brakes at the end of the straight at 235km/h, turning it in, (Vmin~175km/h) and managing the throttle as to what grip is left to get it around. Literally has the ABS kicking in. On an MX5 it is merely a matter of softly pushing the brakes to settle the car before turn in. Or a slight lift as you turn in, and no brakes. I did try a couple of times to get the Vmin up, but with the rooted tyres it would just run wide, and have two wheels on the grass. Once it understeers, there isn't much that can bring it back. Exiting turn two is a shocker if you don't get it exactly right.

Lol!

What I love about watching David drive is his commitment under brakes. Really impressive David... That thing is handling pretty poorly and yet you are wrestling it around with very impressive times, 100% commitment.

Yes, not everyone wants to catch STI's.

Didn't really enjoy driving the WRX at Sandown. Maybe too tired after the big day at WTAC.

I have new tyres, but they are only 215's. Will need to take it back to Phillip Island. Sandown corners are too slow. It understeers too much, and the brakes need ducting at the very least.
Pic coming onto the front straight.

Nitto's for $800 or fancy tyres for $1600. Going fast costs money.
I want to see side by side data to compare the nitto's with something more expensive.

The Nitto's cost $760. Not $800...

Dirk said he would swap for a session. I think it's not enough tyre. Being a 215. I should find out the actual width if the two tyres. Because that is a lot more than 10mm less width.
