Question about my air con
If this isnt in the right spot please move it.
I have a query about my air con. Iv got a 2001 NB8B, when I got it just over a year ago the air con worked but it wasnt cold, I tried to use it (not that I use air con much anyway) as little as possible as I figured it needed a re gas, after use it never dripped any water from under the car also figured due to this it needed a re gas.
Iv recently had the air con serviced and re gassed, the report came back that everything was in top condition etc and it now blows freezing cold air. However, after use it still drips no water from under the car, Iv checked to make sure the pipe is connected to the black box thing (no idea what its called) inside the car, and it is, carpet does not get wet or anything, so Im curious as to why no water drips under the car after or while I use the air con? Before it was re gassed it would make a quiet but noticeable hissing sound after use from under the car, like a hiss hiss hiss and so on as if it was dripping but no water only the hissing sound.
I get why there was no water before the re gas but not sure why it still drips no water after it has been re gassed.
NOTE: The hissing sound is gone now its been re gassed and works a treat but confused why it drips no water.

If you don't care or wish to give a solution maybe don't comment?
I'm curious that's why!

Re: Question about my air con
Maybe there isn't any condensation because of the lack of humidity ?

Agree - the current humidity is quite low - Rhys, my 86 doesn't drip condensation water thru winter and I have the air con on regardless

Re: Question about my air con
Maybe because unlike you Morlock, I dont just run to the mechanics etc. You have the same comment for everything but where is the harm in asking the forum on here? There is alot of knowledgeable people out there and someone may have an answer, if not there was no harm caused.
Its no big drama Im just curious.
Being cooler/low humidity could be the answer I just thought it dripped no matter what (when a/c is on)

Re: Question about my air con
Get rid of the air con and never think about the drip again, I did
zero00 could be right as condensation has to do with two factors, temperature and humidity. In order for condensation to occur, you need a body of warm, humid air (humidity is necessary because otherwise there wouldn't be any water to condense) and a cold surface (the air con Evaporator), specifically colder than the dewpoint of the humid air, on which the condensation is to take place.
http://www.airconcars.com/html/how_it_works.html
Evaporator: The evaporator is another device that looks similar to a car radiator. It has tubes and fins and is usually mounted inside the passenger compartment behind the fascia above the footwell. As the cold low-pressure refrigerant is passed into the evaporator, it vaporises and absorbs heat from the air in the passenger compartment. The blower fan inside the passenger compartment pushes air over the outside of the evaporator, so cold air is circulated inside the car. On the 'air-side' of the evaporator, the moisture in the air is reduced, and the 'condensate' is collected and drained away.

Re: Question about my air con
you are right Speed freak I am one of those odd people who consult professionals when I can- presumably the guys who re gassed it might be happy to give you some advice- just a shot in the dark. . I know how odd it is to actually ask a person working in an industry who works on these things.

Re: Question about my air con
I will stick with what I said Rhys, it's been very low humidity, and when that increases I leave the 86 outside the garage until it stops dripping - mid summer I'd maybe get a litre or more but as I said winter there's none
It's a bit like winter down south, cars regardless blow condensation out the exhaust and I well remember a guy freaking out after getting a hot dog from the 'doggy van' one night that his car was now blowing SMOKE!! It was just condensation of course. Just check the carpets and make sure it's not coming inside the car and all will be good
Sorry you couldn't make today - awesome roll-up!

Im not a huge fan of air con at all, much prefer to have the windows down but really need it some days through summer and its raining etc so I think its staying

Are you this ignorant in person? What is the harm in asking on the forum? If you cant or wont give an answer to that exact question please feel free to STOP filling up this forum with pointless and meaningless comments when someone posts a question regarding anything. I could keep typing but its seriously not worth it, you're not worth it. You must have a lot of free time on your hands if you feel the need to make stupid comments anytime someone asks a question.

Yea Id say thats correct Iv just never really given it much thought and figured it would drip anytime the a/c got used. The pipe is still attached and carpet is always dry so all good then.
Yea pitty I missed out on today, saw the pics, very good turn up, would be the biggest to date I think. Ill be back up soon though.

Re: Question about my air con
Hey I'm an AC guy and yes you need humidity for condensation. To test you could bring boiling water into the cabin in a safe open vessel (that will get the humidity up) and put the AC on recirculate. The hiss hiss sound you previously heard could be the condensate dripping onto the hot exhaust and boiling off/evaporating which is why you could see no water on the ground.
