MX5 Batter Leaked

Postby paulau » Mon Sep 22, 2014 1:47 pm

Hi,

I have an NA6 and have a battery that is a couple of years old and I just noticed it has leaked in the boot.

Whats the best way to clean it up and stop rust? Soap and wather, or is there something that kind of neutralises the acid?

It only happened with in the past couple of weeks.

Thanks

Remove the battery and use a mixture of bicarb of soda and water to clean up the spilled acid. Also check to see if any damage to the paint under the battery has been caused by the acid. If there is damage then you should sand that area back to bare metal and respray with an appropriate paint.

I'd also suggest that if the battery leaked then it is the wrong battery for an MX-5. Use the search function and you will come across some interesting posts on a replacement battery.

Hope that helps
