Depending on if you much you want to get into it, it's probably worth getting a helmet that can support a HANS device. If you're out to buy your first one, it might cost a little more, but it'll save you the trouble of buying a second later.
Mind you, you also need a harness to support one, and a racing seat to support that...

I will check them out. I think JBT might have suggested this too. For the money it might be the go, and it's very conviniently just around the corner (literaly) from my gym

mattyredlocks, I think I'll go the cheap option to start with. Need to keep costs down right now, and getting a HANS helmet, HANS device, racing seat and harness might just blow the budget a little bit, and seems slight overkill for a first track day.

Credit where credit's due, he put me on to them in the September Qld track day thread.
I think we're in pretty similar boats in terms of starting off in track days just I've taken the jump. I can tell you now, it will be great - everyone is friendly and approachable, and it is pretty awesome being out there.

Well, I tried my hand at the skid pan a couple of weeks ago, my first chance to drive the car in anger and test my (lack of)skills, had a great time. But now I want to see what it's like to actually go fast and use grip. I've no doubt it'll be a great day.

Unless you are going to go the whole way and step up to preparing a car with cage, seat and 6 point harness just get the best helmet you can afford. No need for HANS posts or anything like that. If you ride bikes, get a good quality bike helmet.
If after you try a few trackdays and want to step up a good quality helmet with HANS posts will be one of the cheaper purchases you are making
If you don't, look at a motorsport specific helmet, if you can justify the cost. The motosport helmets generally have small eye ports for a full face helmet and if SNELL rated will have fire resistant lining and strap.
Basically, get the best helmet you can afford and go to the shop to try it on to make sure it fits well. This is where paying a little extra for someone who knows what they are doing will pay off. A good bike shop or motorsport equipment supplier will know how to fit a helmet and find the right one for your head. There is nothing worse than having to wear an ill fitting uncomfortable helmet. I'm lucky in that Bell helmets suit my melon, but a lot of Stilo and Arai helmets don't fit me, so I stick with Bell.
In any case, get a full face helmet and drive with the visor down when out on the track. I have personally seen what "shrapnel" from inside a car can do and a fire extinguisher into someone's face is not a site I would like anyone else to see.
For these track days in my NA6 road car, I use my only helmet, a Bell for motorsport use and yes more expensive than most, but then just the minimum in terms of clothes, jeans and a cotton long sleeve shirt. I also use driving boots and gloves, but I do change to a suede steering wheel and gloves make a lot of difference.

Mainly for maniaclachy I stopped into MSA this arvo, they are awaiting a shipment of full face helmets otherwise they have 2 white (1 M, 1XL) and a black XL. Incorrect sizes for me, but may be useful to you, I will wait until the shipment arrives which should hopefully be before the end of next week.

No need to drag the day down.......![]()

Looking at my calendar I maybe able to drag the NA out and give it a thrash.
UMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
shipment has left the states, maybe I dunno, could be, gunna need a tune first though, ummmmmm,
I'll try maybe, gotta use up some tyres & wanna try some different settings, gotta get use to it,
so good excuse, decisions decisions, we'll see

BTW, you blokes and Gals who haven't been to Lakeside before, don't think you have to run ALL day, its a demanding track that DOES bite if your
fatigued or slightly offline etc. Treat it with respect but when your starting to feel a bit tired, have a rest, no shame in showing smarts, and as my
old pit boss would say, "if ya pissing yella drink lots more water"

Thanks! I didn't make it down last weekend, the time just evaporates! Might see if I can duck in this weekend, no idea what size I'd be.

I'm out. USQ in their infinite wisdom have scheduled my one and only exam for that day. Not happy.

Got an email saying that they are rejecting all new annual leave applications at work for the rest of the year, because "it's busy." I'm working on the 10th of november, so I'll probably be missing out unless I fall suddenly ill on the day.
