The base locking ring is undone to allow the whole shock to rotate inside the lower casing, to raise or lower the height.

Yes change your ride height with preload.

I've got Tein Flex. I thought the very bottom collar was ride height? Loosen that upwards, rotate the top section, lock down the bottom collar.

I've checked youtube, other forums and I am doing it right (bottom collar (3rd collar), turn it anti-clockwise, following the thread)
The bottom collar just doesn't want to move! I've hit them with WD40 but no budgee.

I will check. I even thought there might be an Allen key lock.

Ive got tein monflex in my na8 and there driving me up the wall with the noise!!! I adjusted my preload the other day and it helped a bit and theres still that loud knocking noise. Almost sounds like the nuts that mount the top hats to the chassis are loose and when it unloads its slamming into the chassis. ive also tried tightening those shaft nuts but they spin freely?

Very interesting thread, hope you find the problem.

if the shaft nut is spinning freely, that is your problem. check the threading.

Bottom adjuster for movement range. Spring preload for ride height.

There is a thread on here somewhere too started by magpie.

Guess what. I was right. I got a breaker bar on the Tein spanner, loosened the bottom collar and wound the tube up for more height. Then locked down the bot collar.
I added 1cm in tube length which lead to the car going up around 4cm! I thought it would have been 1cm too? Will have to lower it back a little. I don't think it can settle (it's not a spring).
