Did you look at all the option. In h4 getting them in a blister pack instead of a hard case saves lots of dollars.

I just chose the NB8B high performance option. Otherwise what is the point in swapping.

A standard H4 is about 900 hours whereas one of these performance bulbs is approx 300. "To get more light and longer beam they have to pump up the thermal temperature" - so said an automotive lighting guy that I knew. Incidentally Osram do make the HB3 and 4 though initially I don't think it was a Euro style bulb. I am not sure who make Narvas halogen bulbs but its not likely to be Philips or Osram who have a terrific reputation for their Euro made products.

This sounds right. According to the packaging life is reduced.

It also matches my experience. I just blew my second Philips X-Treme Vision equivalent globe after only 3 years. They're still well worth it in terms of wombat avoidance. They've probably saved me a dozen times.

Service and delivery from Powerbulbs has been great. The performance gain is at least the 40m claimed. Apart from shortened life the only downside is that the increase in brightness comes at a cost of increase in glare from roadside refective signs, guide posts, etc. This gets bad enough to impact your night vision for a few seconds after you drive through a particulary madly signed area. Bought bought a pair of polaroid yellow night driving glasses from ebay Cina for the princely sum of $3. Amazingly they work really well in halving the glare without cutting visibility or range.
