Damn there is some man love for MCA coilovers on this forum lately...
I'm not dissing them, and full disclosure, I have never dríven an MCA equipped car (would love to). But what I want to know is, have any of you actually back-to-backed them with BCs?
The fact is MCA blues are still $200-$300 more than BC BR units. They are actually comparable in price to BC ERs which are infinitely more adjustable.
My experience with BC BR units is very, very good. Yes they're Taiwanese, but they are very well made and properly adjusted, they are very fast on the track and ride very well on the road. The most balanced MX5 I have ever dríven was fitted with a nicely set up set of BRs.
I have never tried the V1 units but for the price difference, just get BRs (or even ERs).

For my NB8a, I am holding out for funds for the MCA Blues for a couple of reasons.
When they start selling a shock for a car they set one car up, checking valving, spring rates and ride height. So when you purchase a MCA Blue shock it has been set up based on a car similar to mine.
I don't believe the same is true of the BC's but please correct me if I am wrong.
I also like that MCA are not looking to make the car lowest possible but to maximize performance within the shock travel and bump stop.
I know it is not possible to set up a shock for the correct height off the car but if a supplier can get me closer to the right starting point I think that is worth while.
The spring rates they are using get me a little worried but all the feed back I have read and spoken to people about seems to suggest they are ok for the street.
Time will tell (I hope later this year).

I can't speak for BC but if they guessed the damping and spring rates, they did a damn good job.
I know someone running a top shelf time attack car who recently moved from Ohlins to BC ER (on a Skyline GTR). That tells you something - We are not talking OBX or Megan Racing here.
I actually have a dyno chart for BC BR (MX5) coilovers somewhere - I'll try to dig it up when I get home.

I'd agree with zossy any company with a halfway decent shock / coil over will have done development testing.
Only the mca reds are individually checked against the standard to verify the valving I think? Blues just get the standard valve assembly (and I assume random / periodic testing)

I not a fan. Have ridden in a couple of cars with Megan coilovers (not MX5s though) and also seen QC issues with other Megan parts.
