Price my MX5?
So I'm thinking of selling my Eunos sometime in the near future (closer to summer).
Mainly because I moved further away from Melbourne's city (literally in the bush now) and am about to purchase a Jet Ski which will need towing... (*sigh* yes I'm gonna that boring guy with a Falcon...)
But I have no real idea what my "unique" 1990 Eunos is worth?
Here's why it is slightly unique...
- AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION!!!!!!!
- Silver in colour
- Will be eligible for club rego in 2015
- Brand new BC coilovers
- brand new axis OG wheels + tyres
- HARDTOP!!!!
- Stereo upgrade, little 8 inch sub etc
- UNDER 140,000 KMS and it is mechanically top-notch, no issues at all.
- Eunos 1.6 model, so power steering, A/C, power windows all that good stuff
- Interior is literally perfect.
- Will come with set of NA6 daisy wheels and a set of NA8 Enkei wheels WITH 80% tyres.
- Will also come with stock suspension (which has new struts I believe).
- Rego
Downsides:
- Slight 3cm x 3cm paint peeling front guard and on door.
- Soft top is in great condition but rear window is yellowed out.
- a/c compressor is dead (but grabbin a new one pretty soon).
Not advertising it for sale, so I didn't place it in the For Sale section (if it is in the wrong section please move it...)
So what do you think its worth?
I was offered just over 4K for it, including everything above and I found that a pretty silly price!
Carsales seems to have them at 6K+ many without hard tops (which I know are worth 1k roughly) and faded paint etc and it is hard to find any Automatics!
Hopefully you guys could help me out a little in figuring this out?!
Cheers!!

Re: Price my MX5?
I would say 4k is reasonable. An automatic NA6 is (in my opinion) boring! Mine used to be an auto so I can make that informed comment.

Really? With all that?
Hardtop ~ 1k
BC Coils can be sold at ~700
Aftermarket wheels at ~600
=2.3k give or take (these are all easily sold).
So car is literally only worth 1700? Inc Rego?
Hell no.

You're not going to find the add ons will add much value to the car. Better to remove them and sell separately.
If you got $5k for it as it sits, you would be doing very well. $4k is realistic. And yep, if you sold coilovers, wheels and hardtop separately, you woul do much better overall.

Re: Price my MX5?
BC new $1,200 how many km's on the ones in the car?
Wheels what sort of tyres and how many km's. Axis OG wheels on eBay for around $750 new and delivered.
Again you did ask for comments on price! I agree with zossy1 sell it stock and part out the other bits will see you get more cash.
How quick do you want to sell? Yes you could get more but it will take longer and nobody really wants an auto so you needs collector. A collector will prefer stock!
Economics, supply and demand.

Agree with above. Put back to stock and sell everything separately. More hassle but more $...

Re: Price my MX5?
Yeah, revert to stock & sell aftermarket parts separately as you never get your money back on them. While you're at it you might as well also sell the HT separately. As you say that should realise just over $2k, & the cars still probably worth $4k.
You're right auto NA6s are limited in terms of supply, but they're also very limited in terms of demand, so it's only really worth something to someone actually seeking an auto.
Here's an example of still trying to sell an auto NA after advertising it 12 months ago:

Re: Price my MX5?
You have to think who your market is .......
Young person wanting first car - parents might want safety features.
Enthusiast - will want to allow for manual conversion.
Toy for more mature person - probs wants the relative refinement and safety features of NB or later.
Someone who just wants cheapest possible auto - useable sedans and hatches from $1,500 with more seats.
Also remember all the cars you see for sale are unsold. The pricing asked for them does not reflect the price at which they might one day sell. Looking at sold items on fleabay will give you a better idea of true values.
So yes, parting it out might be the way forward and might even get you more in total than the figure you turned down.

UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Re: Price my MX5?
I would not do anything with it apart from preparing it thoughtfully for sale and certainly I am anti pulling things off a car. The extras like the hardtop are good selling features. If you remove things its just another old MX5. Also don't worry about automatic- somebody looking for an auto does not want a manual. There are stacks of manuals around but not so many autos. Some people actually prefer to stand behind some sort of respect for a vehicle and its provenance. Also so called enthusiasts should understand that not everyone can drive a manual either by choice or because of a physical problem.
You did not mention if it was registered.
It's true provided that Vicroads don't shift the goal posts it will be eligible for Club Plates next year and that would be a genuine plus. Its a good chance they are not going to move the goal posts just yet.
The car sounds like it has some definite pluses including very low KMs. There are plenty of rockets with 300KM and horrible mods and rough cars. I reckon you can get $5K and serious buyers often can see paying a bit more for a genuine car. The less mods the better- it sounds ok and having the standard wheels- great.
If the car is roadworthy thats virtually a must in Vic. After Dec anyone putting a car on Club Plates also has to get it roadworthy.
Mucking around pulling bits off making it less attractive to a buyer and costing you time and effort - for what- not necessarily a better price.
You only one buyer for a car and if a car is good you have an excellent chance to sell it even above average cost if your car is above average. I recently sold a car- only one person looked and over the years I have a few cars like that.

Yeah with rego / roady as well. Been driving it into the city for work for a few months now.
Very interesting to hear this.
Might as well keep it on club rego! No point trading it in for peanuts.
5K would be an ideal sale price IMO.

Someone who wants an Automatic NA would be added to that list.
I never had anyone around me who could teach me manual at the time and loved NA / NB mx5s and decided to wait around for an Auto to come around.
So there's that

BCs done less than 2000 kms, same with axis wheels and tyres.
No rush to sell, I would not mind keeping it as a weekender whenever I'm able to go about grabbing the club rego next year.
Ideally I'd sell it late this year / early next - but no rush at all. I can even grab my towing / daily car without having to sell (just more of a hassle keeping 2 cars).

My opinion was based on five decades' experience and sales of several thousand new, used and wholesale cars. Your result may vary. Good luck to you if it's a better result than my answer to your question.

That's cool mate I didn't mean to sound like a d**k.
I work in Marketing and Sales so I do know a little bit about pitching to the right audience.
You'd know being a salesperson there are always going to be extraneous variables no matter what you do - and I was one of them!
