Re: GSlender's Track Beeotch!
Started building the balsa-wood air box template - it is actually a fairly therapeutic process such that I'm actually really enjoying it.
One thing I'm unsure about, does anyone know what volume or distance of air I should be allowing around the trumpets? Is it a simple case of more = better?
Obviously as the box gets bigger, it becomes more likely to foul on things and generally become a pain with engine vibrations/rocking allowing the box to come into contact with other items, as such there is a desire to keep it reasonable and reduce size unless need/of value etc.
So knowing the optimum space around the trumpets (as a general goal) would be good to know.

G, generally bigger is better. I think Prof G.P Blair has some articles about plenum volume in racecar engineering that you might be able to find. IIRC 6x engine capacity or more would give the best results. I am not really sure how much difference it'll make on a street car though, most of the data I have seen has been for FSAE or formula cars with restrictors.
p.s. post more photos

From my conversations with Patrick at Competition Systems you need at least 20 mm from the top and sides of the trumpets to the air cleaner.
This is also mentioned on the Pipercross website "Remember to leave at least 20mm between the end of the trumpet/carburettor inlet and the inside of the filter." http://www.pipercross.net/pipercross-px600-twin-carburettor-air-filters_p24039543.htm

Thanks
Yep, any MS2 or MS3 with current firmware will work with the sensor and adjust fuel/spark in accordance with ethanol levels in the fuel.
That's the theory. I'll be keen to configure, fill up and determine if indeed it just works or if the reality is not as smooth.

Not really, unless I was going to cut into the frame supports, the box can't easily take into that space.

Ok, getting close and just the little fiddle bits to do.
Like the clutch reservoir line. I need to make a cut in for it so I can raise the box and centre over trumpets.

For now. It drives well as it is. I might look at adding 10mm by just spacing out the airbox and making up some spacers etc. longer screws etc.
