Speed you have not quoted a reference which appears to be an opinion piece i.e. overview. I am not commenting on RX7, (I know next to nothing about them) but only on MX5. If anyone takes the time to read as an example "Mazda MX-5 Miata Roadster Design and development ; the inside story told by Mazda's designers and engineers." Written by Toshihiko Hirai and published by Veloce then its patently obvious that Mazda designers looked at a range of lightweight sports cars including Alfa and Lotus was but one.

Its a very common to be bailed up by people claiming that the MX5 was based on the MGB or the Lotus or the Spitfire but it was no copy of any of them . The MX5 was simply benchmarked to see what had been successful in the 60's and 70's but turned into a car that surpassed them all. I would take Hirai's version of events and the engineers as reliable.

Duran, Duran to headline the release of the ND - almost seems appropriate for the "Hairdresser's Car".

Back in the very late 80's/early '90s the US car mag Car and Driver was available here very cheaply. As a uni student sentenced to interminable bus trips, this was a constant source of reading. I can remember the MX-5 making one of their "Top 10 Cars of the Year" list with a great quote that the MX-5, with its legendary reliability launched in the times of Sprites and MGBs would have been "a housebreaker worse than any blonde".

Marketing images have leaked!!

I can see why they've kept it so quiet for so long, I bet no-one was expecting this in terms of styling.
When they said stunning, well.... I'm absolutely stunned....... :|

Can't say I like it's rear. The tyre tread makes me think it may be a prototype or similar. ......

The only thing I like about that design is that it wont detract from the desirability of NA/NBs - it looks more "Beach Buggy" (especially from the rear) than classic Roadster.

I suspect most people wanting one will wait for the Fiat version, it can't look that bad.

:BROADY: Just more fat lazy journalism that has probably come about for no other reason than Mazda saying NO, Now go away!

That render has been around since mid-2012, the ND won't look like that. The shape doesn't really match the camo shots either.

Hi J_V,
Did you happen to notice your number of posts? And yes this has been around, I think that I first saw it in reference to the Italian conection.

Awww..... you guys are no fun!

I only posted it because it was the worst, least likely render I've seen so far......

You do have to give it credit for taking those NC fender flares to the extreme though! :?

The front looks too busy but the rest of this design finalist looks "orright" (very NB-esque from the front tyre back):

- I don't want to see any creases though.
