I feel like china is coping too much slack for dupain's ignorance and arrogance. I like to think it's just ignorance and not stupidity. At least you can educate ignorance. You can't fix stupid.

They have done nothing. Hence the wording like "working on", "reportedly", "theoretically".
Good try Da Plane. But it really just reads as a university trying to get some headlines.
Shouldn't you be at the exhaust shop anywhay getting your fluid dynamically proven headers installed? Not trying to converse with stoopid Australians?
Took it to an old timer. He calls them extractors. For these type of general work, much cheaper.

Probably spending his (i.e. your) time grinding and filing off all the dodgy welds on the flange.

Re: US Headers & Exhausts NA
And here Dupain is criticising us about not doing any of our own work.
You can't install headers yourself
You can't put together a steering wheel - Im half temped to purchase one, put it together then claim that case of beer off you
You spent the day putting in 4 screws to assemble you intake (wonder if its genuine)

Dupain,
I don't understand why you wouldn't pay the $200 to get your current extractors fixed. Instead you have spent 400 on shiny curly crap and possibly further $ making it fit.
You can polish a turd all you like, it will still be a turd

The current HKS 4/2/1 headers are getting fixed and it'll be closer to $80. How do you know the product is crap if you have not used it? I was interested in a 4/1 set and it was the one that I felt I should give a try - what 4/1 would you suggest? Pretty sure I've got the only Spurt cat back exhaust in Australia. No name but it is the works better than any of the well known brands. Crackles and when you lift the accelerator it sounds like a machine gun ... just awesome.

And there I was thinking that performance extractors were to give your engine more performance. How do I know that they are crap? Simple, I have eyes in my head and I'm often not swayed by marketing propaganda.

So what do your eyes tell you? Which 4/1 would you suggest?

Re: US Headers & Exhausts NA
Id suggest spending the $35 to get your current headers fixed and leave them installed.

Re: US Headers & Exhausts NA
Probably not a 4-1. Many here have tried 4-1s here and on miata.net in the past and have not been really happy with the results. Of those only the Racing Beat 4-1s have been reliable performers. In general 4-1s are probably best/only suited to race applications where they excel at delivering peak power at peak RPM but tend to be a patchy in low and mid ranges.
4-2-1s are a much better choice for road cars. Any half decent design and execution of a 4-2-1 can lift power and torque at least right through the mid RPM range and usually well into the peak range as well. Most track MX5s in Australia, except the ultra-modified ones, run on 4-2-1s. The extra grunt you get for pulling out of corners with 4-2-1s more than compensates for the minor advantages of 4-1s at the peak.

Re: US Headers & Exhausts NA
Regie's price is about right. I'm going to get the flex section on mine replaced again next week. It's a $25-35 recurring expense on a car that I push very hard on the track and has the odd argument with ripple strips, kitty litter, etc.Regie wrote:Id suggest spending the $35 to get your current headers fixed and leave them installed.
Our local muffler shop guy has a masters degree in Political Science. Price partly depends on how solid a contrary political argument I can sustain with him while he welds.

That's the general thought about 4/1. The new CX 4/1 is an interesting design with the larger than usual dump pipe. I'll be in a position to compare stock vs 4/2/1 vs 4/1.
An option is to put these on the 4/1 around town.
