Muffler Cost

Just wondering why the big mark up on a Roadster Sport Q muffler when they retail for just under $430 Australian in USA on today's dollar value

If they can be made and sold for that price over there why can't a locally made one of similar specs be made for around that price range

Aust is not USA and the markets and conditions are not the same.When a manufacturer is looking to make anything it is costed out and includes estimated annual volume ie Sales potential. You don't spend $5000 on tooling to sell 5 per year. You also do not tool something up when someone is far more competitive. In Aust in the car industry a model had to have a volume of about 40000 to maybe viable but in Japan they might make 500,000. Low volume is a killer and higher volume items are often made with better tooling and superior processes.

But you can buy quality Aus mufflers for the mx5.
X-force make everything from extractors to exhaust tip.

Their muffler is under $400 dollars, and their catback is 600ish.

Forgot to mention this is for a 2010 NC2
This is a proven product good note no drone when cruising

Yep, that makes a difference.
Mx5+ hand make NC mufflers; from all reports they are top notch.
This is reflected in the price, of course.
It seems all NC exhaust bits are significantly more expensive than their NA/NB equivalents.
And fair enough, you'd be lucky to shift a handful per year here in Aus.

Hit the mark, also our wages/costs are too high.

RRP for the NB cat-back is $550, I'm going to contact them to see if they will sell direct.

I think Auto Xcess (Official distributor in Victoria) sells the cat-back for $600, but I vaguely remember the axle-back was $440 or something
