Hid's in those housings.

Not many things sh1t me......this is one pet hate. Hid lights in standard reflector housings!

The douche behind the wheel always get a high beam from me as they are coming the other way

Picked them up 2nd hand $400. 14 x 6s +40 (Stock Specs) Made In 1993. Just got some Rays nuts, valves and centres to refurnish.

Yeah, you have to be careful. Black Racing although made in Japan are copies and a few others also. Picked then up from the United Emirates of all places. They have a decent tuning scene, although Toyotas mainly.

Main LEDs don't put out enough heat to melt snow and ice and HID will melt snow and ice, but using LEDs for reverse, brake, indicators, interiors etc.

Regie is referring to the purpose built LED headlight products like those from Trucklite or JWSpeaker.

I posted up my experience retrofitting LED headlights. Given the performance I would not be looking back at standard halogens.

Aside from all these solutions not being legal the problem with retrofitting HIDs into 7" housings is that each headlight housing relies upon a particular bulb type. That bulb emits the light from a specific distance from the base. When retrofitting hid bulbs in almost all cases the HIDs light point differs from a stock bulb, usually further from the base. This changes the beam pattern and results in an uncontrolled out put of light. This is the biggest problem retrofitting HIDs to any stock housing not designed for HIDs.

Wassup got it right in the last paragraph. Amongst other things its called focal length.Lighting is a science and OEM lights are made to incredibly tight tolerances( as a complete headlamp and no one in a home environment or even some of these companies claiming to make compatible units will get it right. People also think that because they have bright light it works better but that is not the full story.Halogen lights are still by far the light source of choice and projectors have become ( despite being around for 20-30 years at least) the lamp of choice.

A halogen system offers reliable , cost effective lighting system that does a very good job.Incidentally Trucklite at least in the past were not regarded as a player on the international scene as a lamp maker and US in particular were always at the back of the pack and their lighting was regarded as archaic in Europe / Aust. US for years did not use asymmetric lighting. If LEDs become mainstream forOEM then customers buy the vehicle and probably give no thought to the headlamps and almost surely no diy will be able to replicate a truly functional system .

Incidentally I don't have a car with HID but a friend does and I am not especially impressed and certainly the cost of these units is reflected in the cost of the vehicle. One of my cars has a a reflector designed lamp with separate high and low pockets. On high beam its a fabulous light and separate driving lights are just not required.

Anyway, the whole glafit HID kit is top notched. Really happy with the results.

The lights on my smart car are of similar height. Just turned those on and ran a masking tape across the wall.

Then I adjusted the NA8's lights to that height and then 2 inches more aggressively down.

Results in a nice white light pathway straight ahead on the road away from eyes of oncoming drivers. Drove it tonight for around an hour and no one flashed.

A lot better than stock.
