Not sure what everyone is running but I'm about to install a cone style intake.

They pass rego checks ok?

Spent the day putting this A'pexi kit together. I like it, nice castings and comes with a heat shield.

Did you consider search what everyone else is running rather then just asking? It's seen as a bit rude to ask really obvious questions that would have been answered lots of time with out searching first.

If it was more if a way to start your show and tell your probably better of starting a thread for your car in the garage section. That way everything is kept together for you.

Either way. It looks like a nice bit of kit.

Exposed filter elements are illegal. So shouldn't pass rego checks if checked.

Are you sure? Last I checked NCOP is made no mention of it only that he must be securely fastened.

If you are going to run ITB's then this will more than likely not be used.

Exposed in QLD is fine. All other states require enclosed box.

I like what you have dont with that heating element. Run a water pipe accross the hot headers then placed the air intake filter right on top of the same pipe. That'll keep air intake temps up and cause good ignition retardation and fuel economy. No need for a knock sensor on that baby.

I had one of those on my Astina about 5 years ago. It's good how they attach straight onto the AFM.

It's noise that you could get nailed on though:

"Air Filters
Fitting a replacement air filter (including pod-type air filters) is considered a minor modification and does not require
specific approval. When fitting a replacement air filter, you must ensure it is securely attached to the vehicle and does not
cause an increase in noise from the air intake system. To resolve this issue, the air filter element may have to be
effectively encased or boxed-in."

- one of the greatest benefits of an exposed filter is the additional noise it generates.

Have heard of and seen fines for people with minor defects (ride height etc) and exposed air filter was listed in the fine. Obviously Mr Plod doesn't technically detail reasons why and what part of the paragraph of the law he thinks you broke etc... but it seems to be a common thing if you get pulled over and someone questions the modifications - good chance that you'll get a defect notice (if they feel like issuing one instead of a warning).

BTW - didn't someone get a mentioned from the boys in blue about exposed ITB socks? Technically very similar right?

The OP asked would they pass rego checks - I figured that unless he bought a China special engineering filter, it would probably fail a check. Only filters made with wicked maths and enhanced cheap manufacturing capabilities would pass. As obviously the normal rules of the road and physics wouldn't apply to anything built or sold by China. Goes without saying really...

True that! I was actually surprised nobody commented on how he spent a day putting the air filter together... but then figured maybe it was as complicated as the wheel boss kit... the guy doesn't get a break with missing instructions and complicated components... !!

Yeah it was me that got "notified" by the boys in blue about filter socks.

Their stated issue was not the exposed element but that the oil filters socks can catch alight if the engine back fires. See the note on the minor pods PDF about filters should be flame retardant.

While I'm still running a sock I'm hoping that having it removed from the direct flame path will make it ok until I mange something better.

Project R, I did mention it was far from ideal, the intake has only been like that since the police said I can't run socks. The current abortion is there because the reroute blocks the rest of the cross over (the reason I went to socks in the first place). I'm planning remove / redesign the reroute based on a different radiator but wanted to show i had done something if I met the police again.
