HVAC/heater control question

Postby hejira » Sat Aug 23, 2014 3:23 pm

All I want is the red illumination from an 01+ HVAC in my NB1.

Does anyone know if one of these from a US miata will work in a Right hand drive Aussie MX5?

I'm guessing the cable layout at the back would be the opposite so a US HVAC wouldn't work (because the cables would be the made to go to the opposite side of the dash), but I can't find an 01-05 HVAC from anywhere except the US.

Has anyone bought a US HVAC before? I don't really want to pull my existing HVAC out just so I can compare it to photos of a US model.

Figured it out - seems the 1 longer cable that goes to the opposite side of the dash depending on the country, can be disconnected and flipped over on the back of the HVAC panel to go to the other side.

No need to pull the entire HVAC unit mate!

The 'red' comes from the dial faces in the face plate which are back-lit by white incandescent globes.
All you need is the faceplate from a NB8b/c to get the red lights or even just the dial inserts that fit into the faceplate (easy to swap out).

In fact I think I still have the 'red' dial inserts that I removed from my HVAC when I did the 'blue backlight' mod on my '04 SE.
You can have then if you like and I'll run you through the process of how to change them out, let me know if you're interested and I make sure I still have them.....

Nevyn-
Did you change backlight to blue without the kit from I.L motorsport?
If so, can you please send me a link on how to do it?
I've want the same thing but could not find another way.
Cheers.

No, unfortunately the only way to alter the backlight colour of the HVAC is to change out the dial faces in the HVAC faceplate with the replacements from IL motorsports........ :|

Also, don't make the mistake of replacing the backlighting globes behind the HVAC faceplate with blue LEDs, they need to stay white. If you do put in blue LEDs the red portions of the HVAC dial controls will end up appearing purple!

Haha, right. I'll remember that when I do that so I don't end up with purple.
Thanks mate.
