If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Found some tools today.

Took the fender off & bashed a bit

Waiting for the filler to dry now.

Will most likely take a few attempts at getting it respectable.

I think its the first time in 6 years Patchy has every panlel in red.
Although thats technically not correct as 2 panles still need painting and have the undercoat peeking through in places

I'm thinking of adopting the 'Patchy' moniker as my NA is a bit multicoloured.

Patchy has been resurrected again. From this day forward, Patchy will be know as Christine.
for the young-ens who may not have read the book. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_%28novel%29

last 3 months she's been sitting in the front yard with a broken clutch being completely ignored. So a few weekends ago this was fixed. And now my son who just got his L's has started driving her.

He got me inspired to get her pleasurable again. as in fix all the rattles, & get the engine running how it should. gave her a wash, cleaned all the windows, cleaned the spark plugs & so on. She's due for a cam belt in a few months & so on.

The cold Idle hasn't worked for some time. And she's been idling like ...... the word starts with S & finishes wit T.... A while back I replaced the Idle speed control valve. This only fixed some of the issues. Idle is still ordinary but much better than it was.
So the next suspect is the air valve.
Since i couldn't source a good 2nd hand one its been decided to remove the existing one & clean it. The plan is to boil it for a while & then soak it in WD 40.

The problem I have is that the replacement o'ring for the air valve is currently not available in AU. MX5 Spare parts are out of stock.
the other problem or unknown bit is....
When they say O'ring. To me that means a rubber ring rather than a flat seal that I would be able to replicate quite easy.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me.

If it is an O'ring like I suspect. How hard is it to to replicate one of those?

You could just use a lot of temp proof sealant in a bead on one side, allow it to mostly set, and then join. This would work.

I remember in the past a photo of Patchy with the son in the passenger seat as a wee tacker with you driving ;) Now it'll be the other way round.
Great to see the story of Patchy continuing Stan.

ha, ha, indeed. Lucas in the baby seat?

perhaps I should put a racing seat on the passenger side & pretend Ive totally regressed with age and in a baby seat. LMAO.

Looks like I'm going to put a hold on the air-valve for now. Once the O'ring is available again I'll probably purchase the cambelt replacement kit & PCV valve all at once from the UK & I'll do it all in one go.

Mazda has none in AU and it will take 7 weeks to get it in from Japan.

So I'll just do a few other things until then.
