So I have a nice spare built turbo motor and Haltech E8 and I would like to stick it into a stock 2002 NB8B and register and insure it legally in NSW.
I Have a few questions.
(1) Will they let me do this?
(2) If they will, who can supply me with engineering/Blue or pink slip to get this done?
(3) What would this approximately cost?

I know I can fudge this through and not tell them about the turbo but my dodgy days are over and want to do this by the book. My luck I will smash it into a Masarati and not be insured and that will make a very unhappy wifey.

Also this motor has low comp pistons 8.5:1 and a strong ported head. If the turbo conversion is not doable. What sort of power would the motor make normally aspirated?
I would expect it to have less power than if it had 10.5:1 compression but with a decent exhaust I would think it should be pretty close....Thoughts?
I also do have my standard SP ECU I could use as well if the Haltech is a big nono.

All things are possible for a price, nothing you have described should cause too much grief as the NB8b has most of the critical bits required (eg. brakes as found on the SE).
You're going to require engineering anyway so go for the after market ECU, besides the SP ECU isn't likely to work well as the engine/intake/exhaust will different.

Try sending Speed a PM as he's going through this process at the moment for his NA6 and is in the same region of Sydney, so should be able to tell what he's found out. :wink:

With the Haltech, most probably just an emissions test (if you use E85, you should easily pass). Internals most likely won't matter. Brakes should be suffice, but it is still best to check.

The E85 gives you an advantage in one of the four gases tested.

Your worst case scenario is having to make a rego exhaust ie one with two or more cats in it, not super
expensive but thats the worst case.

The NSW emissions test facility is also promoting fuel economy you can request a double booking
ie 30 minutes and they will allow you to touch up the tune during that session the other advantage
is CATS get hotter giving you a better chance of getting the tick.

2. There is a list on the rms website. I contacted one in mortdale.
3. $800
You will need to speak to an engineer re ecu. The guy I spoke to said it needs to be locked. I wouldn't waste any time with the stock ecu.
I worked out that it would cost me 4k with new ms ecu, new rx8 injectors, new NitroDann piping, 2nd hand turbo and new oil/water lines and engineering. Good value but now with the new car arriving soon, i'm looking into another alternative...

Car I really wanted didn't work out but its probably for the best as would be a awful shame for owner not to continue with his project.
