Advice on wheel & tyre set up NB8B

Postby The Green Goblin » Sat Aug 02, 2014 1:14 pm

Hey Gents,

read some of the topics found using the search. The car will be used on weekends & track days primarily, im looking at purchasing either the following rims:

1. konig flatouts 15x8+25
2. 6ul's 15x8+36 (gen 4)

both strong & lightweight, i am leaning towards the flatouts as something 'different' + easier on the pocket, i like the look of the rim but the offset seems a little too low? main question is what is the widest tyre spec i can fit under stock guards..i.e. i don't want to roll guards. looked at the goodwin racing site & it said 205/50/15's tyre will plug & play onto the NB with 1.5 neg camber using flatouts, i was hoping to fit 215's onwards but is this realistic?

what are the limitations to tyre size on the nb running stock guards? I will be running semi's also.

cheers.

The +25 on the flat outs isn't too low, in fact it's almost perfect for track NB with some camber. ( widens track for better cornering, and still fits under std guards)
The +36 on the 949 is more for increasing the potential market than ideal offset.. (ie fits virtually everything, whereas +25 won't unless you have some camber.

205s are a better choice for 8s than any other size.

Fair points.

though, whats the justification that 205's are the better choice? you can fit from 195's to 225's on 8's easily.

ive owned low offset rims in the past on another car & while they looked good & sat further out/wider, there will always be issues with caliper, strut & guard clearances - so i guess you can say i just want to avoid hassles.

205s on an 8" rim provide a vertical sidewall, neither stretched nor pulled. Provides best cornering response.

I run the +25 15x8 flat outs on my NB with 205 NT01s. No caliper or strut issues whatsoever. And they don't rub on the guard either, though I do have 3deg neg camber, which would help.

I run the same setup on my nb8b as rascal though with only 2 degree in the front.. (the most I can get atm without modification)

Fits fine and looks great.

My wheels are og axis banzai' 15x8 +25.

You may have to fit braided lines on the front brakes to clear 15's also. (I had to)

Fitment info here for Konig Dial In 15 x 8s. Info on the same site for the 9s. Other Konigs may have different fitment issues.

my preference is not to touch the guards. they rear quarter tends to warp.

thanks rascal + mx5002.. car does look sharp.

do you guys get much inner tread wear with your camber settings? also, have you guys done any guard work?

ive got mixed thoughts to be honest, im thinking if i get 6ul's im not limited to just 205's as i will have more outer room - but how much before i scrub etc - i dont know. anyone with 15x8 6ul's care to share experience.

while the flatout's look tougher i also don't want the wrong attention that dishy wheels & neg camber can get.

I actually get more outer tread wear than inner that suggests I need more camber than the 3deg I have now, but mine spends all its life running around corners so may differ to your usage..
