Italian tune up!
Italian tune up;
An Italian tuneup usually refers to a process whereby a motor vehicle engine is run at full load for extended periods in order to burn carbon buildup from the combustion chambers, spark plugs, and exhaust system.
It is performed after a traditional tuneup and often accompanied by an addition of fuel system cleaner to the fuel tank.
This can also be performed before each oil change interval with the addition of a good quality fuel system cleaner, then a few redline runs under load, after the engine has reached operating temperatures.
Most carbon will escape through the exhaust but traces will find their way to the oil pan, hence doing so just prior to an oil change.
It is particularly useful for vehicles that are only operated at low speeds on short journeys, but can help any vehicle to run cleaner longer, and for diesel vehicles prior to emissions testing. Driving for 20 km is typical.

That is a very dated process, hence why it is referred to as "Italian Tune up", from when Italian cars were being constantly fettled.
Most of us here use SUEC SA459 which, like the aforementioned tune up, is conducted prior to an oil change.
You should give it a try. Enhanced fuel efficiency is one of the outcomes of using SUEC SA459.

when you write these things I think the idea is to actually put it in quotes "..." or make a reference. It's straight from Wikipedia. Wiki also list their references.

Do you use the add to tank version or the aerosol? I'm thinking the fuel tank additive is easiest.

I use the spray stuff thru the throttle body. If you read the article you will see that they are different.

i agree i think water is also fine.
i for one would stay away from any snake oil fuel additives.
i have used subaru upper engine cleaner which is available at the subaru dealers service department.
it was a night and day difference for a car like mine which rarely gets an open run.

We use the Subaru stuff when we have cars come in the workshop with "Issues" and it is brilliant gear! but make sure you start the car outside - I usually use a dose of both in a new second hand car when I am baselining it - just to be sure - around $12 - $14 a tin from memory

3 Bond also do an upper engine cleaner. Replica of Subaru one. Very popular with workshops I sell to at my work. Part no: 6601j-240 if anyone wants it.
Available at most good parts stores.
They also make one for diesels if anyone has a diesel as well.
Memory on part number not quite so good on that one.

I almost mentioned it. But its not actually the same stuff. AIC is more aimed as a stronger throttle body and plenum cleaner.
the 3 bond and subaru stuff cleans throttle body, plenum, piston crowns and valves. It really does clean the whole upper engine hence the name.
