Na8 belts part numbers

Guys, went to see a mx5 n8 today and put a deposit down but it looks like the alternator, wp and ps belts are long over due for a change showing sings of cracking.

Anyone got partnumbers handy for all the belts or a link?

Would also be nice to get part numbers for spark plugs leads

Oil viscosity recommended for 170,000kms
oil filter part number,
air filter part number

And any thing you can think of

Once again car is a 97 na8 with no factory aircon but has P/s

If you go into any parts store (Repco/supercheap/AutoOne) they just look up the car and have all that info.
Do some research on oil, there are heaps of threads on here/internet about different options.
I also never recommend "top gun" brand ignition leads, I've had multiple sets over multiple mx5s fail and cause problems, I always use heavy duty magnecors :)

Re going to super cheap, I find it always works out more expensive vs source the same time brand and part online

Welcome to the NA8 club. Finest car ever built.

I buy heaps of stuff on-line but for generics like belts, plugs, filters, oils and stuff like that it's hard to do better than Repco.

For oils at 170,000 I'd be doing 0W40 or 10W40 full synthetic: Nulon or Penrite are both good. I'd lean towards 10W50 if it's worn or towards 0W30 or 0W40 if the lifters click a lot on start-up. More expensive, highly advertised oil brands are not necessarily better, more likely worse TBH.

Z79A Ryco filter is fine but you'll sometimes find genuine Mazda ones from the dealers cheaper.

Ignition leads on-line. Magnecor are safe but exxxy.

0w40 is probably too thin for an old engine.

Originally a mineral 10W30 would've been recommended back in the 90s. But today a syn oil viscosity would be similar to 0w40/5w40.

So use a 10w40/10w50/15w50/15W60 depending on how loose the engine is.

As fpr part numbers for the belts. They all be 4PKxxxx. The xxxx is the length of the belt in millimeters. From memory the alt/wp belt is 4PK1085. Just measure the length on the car using a piece of string wrapped in a complete circle. then get a blet 20mm bigger.

emily is spot - take the same advice for any car- Bursons is good for these types of things. Sometimes belt numbers are not right so its easy just to remove the belt and take it with you for positive id. I would use the oil recommended for the car i.e. refer to your owners manual.

That is the worse bit of advice I have ever read. Advances in oils since 1994 means the manual is completely out of date and inaccurate. It is currently 2014.

Unless of course you are happy to pour some dirty old miniral 10W30 into it.

Honda K series, Mitsu 4G series, Mazda B series, Nissan SR series all share same fitment. And probably many more also. But those are you normal well known ones.

PRR you are distorting what I was recommending- why do you make a remark like "pour some dirty old miniral 10W30 into it". In case you are not aware the vast volume of oil put into cars by mechanics and workshops across Australia are mineral oils - if a customer wants a synthetic they have to specify that requirement. Anyone with a doubt about what their oil they should run they can either check on line Oil co sites or give them a ring- I have done both on occasions. Oils are upgraded for specifications and if there is an oil upgraded to a revised spec then the lower spec will be superseded.

An MX5 does not need a genuine "Honda" oil filter- Ryco is a perfectly reliable brand.

Lets understand that Bursons as an example is the biggest supplier in Australia to the mechanics and pros who work 8 hours a day every day fixing and servicing cars.

Morlock, it's because I still have a bunch of genuine Honda filters at home as well as honda cars. This interchangeability is quite convenient
