Better brake pads for std NC that cause less brake dust.

Hi all first post here.

Just purchased a NC for the wife after selling my MPS, great car and a lot of fun to drive but the brake dust on the front is driving me nuts, is there a better pad to use on the NC that wont cause as much brake dust.

Welcome Stephen. Congrats on the purchase.

I'm not an NC person but the first thing that occurs to me is that I can't recall anyone complaining much about brake dust here before. That says to me that the original pads and rotors were pretty good as far as dust goes. Is this a new car or has it done enough Ks for someone to have changed the pads before you got it?

I purchased my NC new in 2009 and have never had any dust issues with the stock pads (60,000klm) chasing a bit more 'feel', I have recently fitted some braided brake lines and a set of EBC Ultimax pads. the dust is negligible.

Its a 2006 model with 89000 on the clock, possibly had a brake pad change, the rears are great with very little dust.

have recently been reading lots of good reviews on the QFM queensland friction materials brand and I'm planning on going with the QFM HPX pads on my next brake pad change.

The above would suggest that the fronts have been replaced. Details of EBC Ultimax here, I purchased mine locally.

I'm getting the impression that ability to pull it down from 200kmh to 60kmh in 25 metres to get you round turn 2 at Eastern Creek is not really high on Stephen's priorities. So before everyone starts recommending their favourite performance pad it might pay to think first about dustiness, softness of feel and freedom from noise. Is that right, Stephen?

I'm saying OEMs would be a good start. Otherwise QFM Eurotech or SuperX. Avoid Bendix.

Probably shows how bad individual experience is in decision making but I am happy with the Bendix General's that came on my car when I brought it. I didn't experience them getting the wheels dusty at all and they don't squeal.

I have only used Carbotech's on the track (XP10 and now XP12) so I don't have any experience of the front's on the track but the rears lasted 7 or so track days + 15,000km's before they ran out (I ran a set of XP10's at the front out during that time). I understand that isn't really much help but I thought that was pretty decent durability. The fronts which only see street driving are not even close to being done.

Most sets of road pads should be fine if they are installed right.

I am with you manga_blue, I do not track my car and research showed that the EBC Ultimax (not from the 'STUFF' range) were a good substitute for OEM pads, a little more performance without the fuss.

I've read different reviews on ultimax, many of which said they are over priced and not very good... Perhaps we've been reading different reviews

Don't get Remsa. They are great pads, excellent stopping power, quiet and very well priced but extremely dusty.

Just for your info Stephen. MX5parts.co.uk are probably the major supplier of genuine Mazda parts to people on the forum. Their genuine Mazda parts, for some reason, seem to be much cheaper and better quality than Mazda Australia's genuine Mazda parts. Shipping is pretty quick. My record is 39 hours from placing an order to having them in my hand in Melbourne, though typically they take a week.

I put them on the wife's BMW shopping trolley and no visible dust at all; they stop well too.

Otherwise I've always found OEM pads are pretty good as far as dust goes.
