Seized spigot bearing? Gearbox input shaft has welded itself to it?

Thanks manga.
I have not really looked at the spigot.
The gearbox is off so will take a look tonight.
When does the spigot bearing get used?
Or is it always in use?

So Dann, if say the spigot bearing was locked solid, would that create the same issue??

Seized spigot means that gearbox input shaft is locked to the engine and the clutch has no effect at all.

Sailaholic, the spigot bearing only comes into play when the clutch is released and you need the gearbox input shaft to turn at a different speed from the crankshaft - like in the middle of a gear change or you're idling in gear with the clutch pedal depressed.

Thanks manga. I was used to that with older stuff but read somewhere the spigot bearing was in constant contact for mx5 gear boxes which seemed odd at the time.

Thanks Manga,
I really want to check the Spigot still spins now as it sounds like a potential culprit.

Spigot is in constant contact, but only spins differently to the flywheel when clutch engaged.

Word of caution, Dweezle. Seized spigot bearing doesn't explain the increased stiffness in the clutch pedal. No idea about that.

Well car is mobile again.
We threw in a new kit and it all works.
I think the fork is twisted.
We found a spare on an old gearbox in my garage and comparing you could see a slight twist in it.

First day driving today and all seems pretty good.
Just need to adjust the engagement point slightly.
