I have a couple of quick questions,

Do the stayfast or mohair tops still require the initial couple of days in the sun to stretch to get them to close?

And Green Hornet where abouts did you get your hands on a stayfast delivered for $400. I cant find a one piece vinyl delivered from a reputible mob for that.

green_comet wrote:The stayfast top on my old clubman cost me $400 delivered and it was perfectly fine, never once did I think it was a cheap top or low quality, its was actually a lot nicer than the standard Mazda vinyl top it was replacing. Don't knock it till you try it, pretty simple.

What I am after is a NA6 cloth top with a zip down plastic back window to suit my roll bar. Anybody with a good lead please let me know. I am spending far too much time on google for my bosses liking...

Cheers,
Rolley.

Hahahaha Green Hornet!!!

Rolley, that price was about 5 years ago so it's not surprising you can't get it that cheap anymore. They will still need the stretching time.

if nothing else it does underline that a local agent or business is a safer bet insofar as warranties are concerned. Australian consumer law where it applies is very good- even the local $2 shop displays your rights and allows people change of mind. I well remember the days before these laws and them local businesses were far from helpful - there was a very common expression " buyers remorse" and today we don't have to be so remorseful.
If my vinyl top goes I will replace it with the same material- tried and proven over decades of sports car and I don't care about the look- I prefer it to be down. Vinyl coated fabrics are very robust materials- take a look at seats.

With hindsight I would buy buy a Mazda hood - the number of frustrating hours I wasted trying to get the 1st replacement to fit and then the replacement claim and then fitting another hood more than compensated the 2x price of OEM. However there are a lot of Robbins Hoods running around on MX5s and other convertibles.

Morlock we have gone over this again and again and again. Really don't think you need to restate how great you think the vinyl roof is as we know already.

I had a mohair roof on my NA6 and I lovvvveeeedddd it. Felt like great quality, was luxurious, cheap compared to OEM, cut out a bit of wind noise and very easy to care for. I will do it again when/if my NB roof needs replacing.

They come without the frame - you have to fit it to your frame. It takes about 4-6 hours and it is best to have 2 people preferably someone who has done it before.
Plenty of instructions on the net.
You will probably need to fit a rain rail if yours is old and probably cracked, and if you don't buy a hood with one fitted.
