It was bucketing down and even some hail at the start of the day but the weather turned around in the end, although a little damp and the occasional drizzle... plus the dump of fluid at turn 1 and 2 caught a few people.

I was disappointed that the cars were let out of the pits so slowly at the start of sessions, I was lapping cars very quickly. Not a good feeling when I am on a quick lap and catch up to cars that have only just left the pits.
Also, there were a big delay around midday which seemed to be a waste of valuable track time. I would have thought we could have made use of the dry track while we had it.

I discovered a bolt missing from one of the front brake calipers halfway through the day, thankfully nothing disastrous resulted and i just needed to replace the missing bolt.

Ended up with a 1:52, car should be 1-2sec faster with better conditions.

Was it cleared up properly? Or was it slippery all day?

That's a fantastic lap Brendan.
You obviously have great down force for that turn one speed.

It was ok in the afternoon.

The car would be capable of over 170km/h vMin at turn 1 without the aero bits.

So apparently I wont be included in the MX-5 championship for last weekend because I didn't send in the class classification form early enough.
Nobody said anything about it to me on the day when I asked about it.
Pretty disappointing, but it doesn't really matter, might go back to doing PIARC events again.

It is funny they said just fill it out online now. But changed after the event to it would be unfair to accept the form now. Unfair to who? Seems that they are back to there old tricks. If your fast, or not buddy buddy in the club it is never going to be easy.
Keep at it. And don't give up.

Hi mate,

love the look of the car and the 'aero pack'. Shows what can be done with some thought, skills, and effort.

vMin of 175-180 is possible at turn 1 without aero. Possible but not repeatable, 170 vMin is repeatable.

Neat lap.

I did 176km/h Vmin in the WRX in the only dry session last time out. Anyone going slower in an MX5 is not trying hard enough lol. Aren't MX5's supposed to be quicker in corners.
And that car has shagged tyres and not dialed in yet.
Also the VMax to turn 2 is much higher, as the car can accelerate at that speed. Unlike an MX5.

Ben I looked at my non aero speeds in the red NA8B. 175km/h Vmin seems to be where I was at on 2 different days, and 173 the time before.
Surprisingly with aero, I was only doing 180km/h. These are from fastest lap of day. Other laps may have higher min speed.
But the difference is it is much more comfortable with the aero at 180km/h. Could push harder, but brain has to tell foot not to lift.

The max speed to turn 2 on the 180min T1 lap is 182km/h.
And with the WRX, with 176min T1 lap is 184km/h.

So MX5 can only get 2km/h at full throttle from apex at turn one.
Where the WRX gets 8km/h.

At 175 to 180 without aero seems pretty well on the limit, if you're offline by even a few cm you'll run out of road on the exit. My car won't do any faster than that as the best speed I've seen down the straight has been 183km/h at turn in and vMin is determined by how much speed you scrub off. To be honest I can't go flat through there anymore though, my brain won't let me so I have a slight lift and my vMin is consistently around 170 which gives some margin.

Interesting that the WRX is that quick, I guess it shows its a commitment corner as much as it's down to the car. How quick is the WRX over lukey heights? I found thats was the one corner I am particularly quick through in the MX5, especially after the KWs. 144-145 km/h vMin from memory was the best I've seen through there.

Red car with aero is 139 Vmin to 150 Vmax with understeer

Without aero is 139 Vmin to 145Vmax

WRX is 125 Vmin to 141 Vmax with lots of understeer.

I thought it was quick through there. I don't accelerate after vMin though as I have to use 4th and it doesn't pick up speed. 3rd is on the limiter the whole way at 139. Making me wish I entered Phillip Island...
