This may be a silly question, but what makes a BP Xtreme HD clutch twice as costly as a B6 one?

Probably the same thing that makes a set of maxim works headers 80% more expensive for a bp then a b6.

Why might it be twice the price? Volume of manufacture- i.e. the main driver for reducing material and component costs is having higher volumes. Higher volumes allow set up costs, tooling costs to be defrayed/ amortised over much higher manufacturing runs. It also gives a maker an opportunity to use machinery which reduces manufacturing time. The goal is to make an item which is well designed, with the right materials and components, with repeatable quality in the best time consistent with a monetary target. A component maker or an assembler must work with a price that is acceptable to its customers i.e. a car co or wholesale buyers or a small retail market that is willing to accept a high price.. If someone wants a product that has a high content of hand labour or a spec that surpasses anything else in the market it may carry a premium.

For that price you could just pick up a 2nd hand NA6 flywheel and run the 1/2 price B6 clutch.

i wouldnt touch an exedy with a 10 foot barge pole if going turbo.

HUNDREDS of posts on miata.net and miataturbo.net about exedy clutches roasting themselves because of poor springs.
i personally know one guy who toasted an exedy clutch in just under a month. the springs were SHOT.

if you are going turbo you MUST go with an 1800 size. why muck around with sub par or marginal clutches...do it once do it right. 1800 flywheel with a 1 ton cover plate and your choice of disc whether that be full face organic or maybe a sprung 6 puck. ive been running a 1800/1 ton with a "stock" performance disc for 8 years now and its only now just getting a bit "soft" on shifts.

Really, I've seen some HD B6 clutches doing just fine in turbo cars?

Could be troll or could be drag racer. B6 clutch fine for turbo unless you enjoy burnouts.

the ONLY 1600 size clutch ive seen hold a turbo for any extended period of time was a 4 puck.

you only have to go on the other two forums and search "exedy clutch" to see that they are totally sub par especially with regard to the springs, they just dont cut it with a turbo.
i have seen FAAAAR to many guys who've bought a clutch that "should be right" only to find out weeks later that they just bought a $400+ paper weight.

ive had my MX for 12 years and it had a "HD" 1600 on a lightened flywheel, in 2005 when i went turbo , it lasted all of 3 weeks before it was toast. my 1800 size one has been in there untouched since then to this day.
