Throttle hesitant
When I start my na miata 1.6 it's very hesitant when I give it throttle when I'm throttling to leave from a stop like at a stop light or just generally leaving from any stop . Even if it's just sitting idling and u rev the car it's hesitant and the throttle response isn't that good. However whole driving the car it doesn't hesitate or skip or anything? Any suggestions? The catalytic convertor has been deleted and it still had the factory muffler . Other than that it's all stock

Could be timing - check with a light to ensure the timing belt or cam hasn't slipped. 10 deg BTDC and some folks adjust the CAS to get a little more advance for a more peppy engine - as much as 14 if the fuel and conditions are ok.

Well I'll be f&*ked, in 40 odd years as a mechanic I never knew that a dirty car would make it sluggish off the mark.
Try plugs and leads (or polish the knob, maybe that will fix it )
BTW, its a mx5 or a Eunos, not a miata.

What is BTDC .. Obviously it's top dead center . What's the "b" and what is CAS . Srry for the noobness . I have a timing light so I'm assuming there's marks on the timing gears that like up with each other and then there's a mark on the crank pulley that lines up with a mark on the timing cover ? I havnt really looked into it that hard.

B is for BEFORE top dead centre.
Cheap trick to tell if it could be plugs, if it struggles of lights, means trouble under load.
So cruising is easy, try say going up a hill in third and planting it, does it misfire? If so, ignition is at fault. Could also be air filter, check and clean/replace. Also try fuel filter.

All these are great pointers. I'm Guna try a couple things and get back with you . The guy I bought it from said he had the timing belt and water pump changed so I'm thinking who ever timed it may have set it a tooth off.. I don't know much about miatas yet but I've timed over 15 or so Hondas .. Can't be too much harder

I tried the under the load test and it done fine . I put it in 5th going uphill and matted the gas pedal to the floor and it didn't even hesitate . Just from a stop does it do it
