euro markets always seems to get the smaller engines. but oz and usa always get only the bigger option.

Don't count your horsepowers or chassis before they arrive.

NA,NB,NC were heavier than the brochure would indicate and the Horsepower never seems to
measure as expected, the BRZ/86 was the same it turned out heavier than original stated and doesn't
have the punch the brochure indicates.

Promising hype but Euro V compliance will cripple the engine a bit and everyone expecting
5 star crash protection will make it tough to get anywhere near 1000 kg wet.

Although I work in sales in a Mazda dealership I know no more than the general public. Looking forward to 3 Sept and hoping for 1000kg and turbo 1.5. Will be happy with na 2.0 n/a, not happy with na 1.5. If a turbo 2.0 or an na 2.5 comes along I might even be persuaded to cop for the tax on having a company car.

Also hoping for pricing to compare with the predicted $25k in USAland. Fat chance!

The current Mitsubishi "Mirage" has a 5 star Aust NCAP/4 star Euro NCAP and weights 890kg, so it's not out of the question.

And yes, there's a lot wrong with that comparison.

Because drivers in the euro market pay road tax based on engine size and co2 emissions. Only wealthy people can afford to own/run large engined vehicles in europe.

950 Kg will happen I feel sure but Mazda or any other maker in AU still has to deliver a smooth comfortable modern car which has good performance i.e. like a sports car, or its sales will falter. Au is in the scheme of things small potatoes with the current MX5 just a blip on the sales charts. VW have been successful by a number of measures in selling small engines with turbos around the world but whether this provides a better set up longer term remains to be seen.

Stillettos response is of course correct for Europe / UK and one day ( again) we may see us paying more in reg etc to drive urban tanks or for that matter to drive old cars.
