Newbie needs persuading

I love my SE and love taking it out on the weekend or a midweek run up the mountains the SE is a great replacement for a bike but would NEVER ever even consider to use it a a daily driver Its a fantastic toy but will never replace my comfortable auto sedan that can make one trip home from Woolworth with the week groceries I kid you not :wink:

Despite some people disagreeing that mx5's shouldnt be used for a everyday car or werent built to be used everyday etc they are perfect for daily driving. You said you dont need much space so no worries there and thats usually the only downside for most people.

Either the NB (SE) or the NC would be great for long distance driving/daily driving. NC would be a little quieter, more refined and probably more comfortable then a NB while still providing high levels of enjoyment and smiles.

Only thing I could suggest is if you get the NB maybe look into a hardtop if it doesnt come with one. You can still remove it when you want to go for a cruise with the wind in your hair but, for the long distance driving it will make the cabin noise much less as with the soft top you get quit a bit of wind noise which could be quit tiresome.

Apart from that, they are very reliable, good on fuel, cheap to run and maintain and extremely good fun to own and drive.

A quick reminder that once you get an mx5, mates/colleagues/bystanders will be quick to scream at you 'MID-LIFE CRISIS' and your wife will need to be vigilant on you for fear of losing you to another girl :wink:

I think people are in denial. An MX5 is a terrific sports car but it does not offer the same level of comfort as a modern sedan . I would not even consider an MX5 for a role of 50000km per year and I very much doubt that all but a tiny percentage on this forum get anywhere near that amount of travelling salesman usage.

Keep in mind guys, that he's looking at going from motorcycles to an MX5. So, noise, wind and practicality aren't primary concerns here.

Also, he hasn't been back to check on or respond to this thread, but we've filled up two pages of replies. I think we scared him off!

My NA is a daily driver doing ovrt 300km per week. Compared to my XR6 turbo it is noisier and slower but still good. The hard top is just as noisy as the soft top. For a long trip it would probably get tiring, but coming from a bike it would be fine.

Wow, this is a fine forum. Thanks for all the replies. I have just returned from way down south. Tasmania and Optus do not make for good internet connections!

The car in question is in fact an NC model, late 05, with cruise, Bose, 1/3500 special edition etc.

You've given me a lot to think about. I shall begin to digest things later today.

Depending on how tall you are, make sure you take one for a good drive if possible. Tall people as in over 6' can and do fit in an mx5, Im 6' 4 and I do fit but on longer journeys being cramped in a small car becomes very painstaking and annoying and can stir up your back if you have a bad back.

Not trying to put you off or anything, always a way around these things but a quick test drive doesnt really identify any of these potential issues.

Good point. I only drove the car for 20-25 minutes, but did get to try it out up a few twisty hills.
