You will need to get it reconnected to the the system. (and hope there was not a reason for it to be disconnected)

Good luck. :)

It was completely bent over and nothing could go through I guess. A bit like bending a straw. Getting the car back tonight with the new exhaust and have asked him to look at it.

Ok I see what you mean.

Thanks for the replies, got the car back and after taking the hose off ..

Any suggestions on which path to take. What new hoses, coolant and where to connect it all together. The mechanic could do it but I want to have a go.

Ok I think I understand.

Could there be a reason why they did not hook it up properly and not bypassing the heater with coolant?

How would to get behind the engine to connect the hose to the heater inlet?

It is hard to explain but i will try. I may be easier to meet some one and have a look at the stock set up.

The water pump sends water towards the firewall in a copper pipe on the bottom edge of the headers and it turns towards the passenger side at the end of the headers. (looking at that last picture that could be the bypass pipe the previous owner put on the car. If that hose is coming from a copper pipe below the headers then that is the one top follow)
The one closer to the driver runs to the back of the head.

Have a look on the net and I sure you will see lots of write ups about this. (perhaps use reverse logic. Look for video's on how to remove the heater pipes and work backwards)

That diagram provides a good view of the coolant flow. The only valid reason I am aware of for bypassing the heater core is if the core is leaking. The only way to fix it is to replace the core, which I. Have heard is a real PIA.

Yes J

Looks like new hoses and a new element - @ $1K job?. Will have to pull the dash out to get to it. Might go to Jay Car and get a heater that plugs into the cigarette lighter.

Thanks to everyone's help on here for guidance to give me confidence to have a go to fix it.

Purchased these on e bay - heater hose kit and a 2nd hand heater core.

Image $60 clamps and shipping included.

Image $115 including shipping. 2nd hand, seller says it is in A1 condition. New ones OEM $400-$500? What is this price of copper per tonne? = $$$$. Wreckers are stripping copper heater cores and selling them for scrap for big $$.

Will read up on the removal/install. Any advice?

Good on you for giving it a go.

While I have replaced the heater hoses a couple of times I have not replaced the heater core. Here is a link to a thread on the big forum by someone who has replaced the heater.

Good luck.

I remember it was awkward to get the clamps off behind the engine. Not much room to maneuver tools. Easy to get them back on though. Check for oil leaks while there.

Picked up a NA6C core? NA6C cores have interconnecting hoses? as well (can anyone confirm the NA6C has a connecting hose?). Waiting for the NA8C core to come. The NAC6 core was cheap. No harm in having a spare and will need clamps and hoses anyway for the refit.

Ran water through it and did not leak.

Waiting on the engine hoses before we pull out the defect core.

Got one of those mini pipe cutters. Not sure how to cut the defect core when in place thought
