Whizzing sound at 4th gear

Postby lukoo » Sat Jun 21, 2014 6:04 pm

Hey guys,

Recently I noticed a whizzing sound when I changed up to the 4th gear and it will go on for 3-4 seconds. This only occurs when it is in the 4th gear. Can't really identify the issue. Hope to seek some advice..
p.s. I am driving a 1992 NA6

Cheers

Really need more info to narrow this down, but worth checking that the two rubber boots under the vinyl gear lever boot are intact. The outer rubber boot perishes leaving leaving the underside of the centre console open to the underside of the car, while the inner rubber boot perishes leaving the top of the gearbox turret partially exposed. Compounding this can be the slow deterioration of the vinyl boot. All this results in more noise & heat in the cabin.

Roof up, down or both.
Where does the sound come from, is it at a certain rev range etc?
Without the info you may as well ask how long is a piece of string.
People will be more inclined to help if you are applying some effort straight off the bat :)

Give all the heatshields under the car a bit of a tap to see if any of them could be loose and vibrating at a certain resonance and do the same to the muffler to see if there's a loose baffle.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Yeah, also the heatshield in the engine bay around the headers.
