Cool, thats exactly what I wanted to hear. Ill ring Brakes Direct Monday morning and get a set ordered.

MX5 Plus fitted them and supposedly bedded them in so I can only take their word on that. As mentioned I had brand new replacement rotors fitted front and rear at the same time.

Dust is very annoying but Id rather put up with a dusty pad then one that screams everytime you push the brake pedal.

I gave the front brakes a good blast with water last night and it made a difference as usual, nice and quiet all the way to work but on the way home I got about halfway and they started to squeal again :( Maybe I just need to wash them every single day until I get new pads haha.

Ring MX5 Plus and explain the issue, it does not sound right. These days I do my own pads so I know that they have been bedded in as per the makers recommendation.

Most pad issues can be put down to the bedding in or incorrect pad for usage. That is a track pad on the street will have difficulties getting up to temp so will chew the rotor plus not work effectively.

I rang MX5 Plus on Friday and spoke to Jason about the issue and a pad they might recommend.

He was the one that basically laughed when I said yes Im after a quiet pad, he said generally you wont get one that is quiet. He said its 'normal' as he says to everything else that Iv asked. He did say that the pad material may have hardened a little due to being used to the full extent of the pads purpose since its had alot of heat cycles etc on the street its not getting anywhere near track temps so it doesnt work as efficient.

He just said to give the brakes/calipers a good hose and see how it goes, even though I told him that doing that only works for about a day. Might just try a new pad and get the discs machined. Sounds like its Hawks in general that are noisy and very dusty.

It sounds to me like two problems, the pads don't suit what your using them for. Also, not bedded in properly.
A lot of mechanics these days are still determined that everything is the same as it was 40 years ago, where you bed a pad in by just slamming on the brakes from 70 till dead stop to 'bake' the pad to make sure it beds in. That's all well and good with the old style. The new performance pads use a different Bedding technique.
Drive to 60, step hard but not lock up on brakes till you reach about 20. Do this 3 times, then drive around a bit normally to let brakes cool. Repeat at 60 2 more times with cooling time. Then up to 70, then 80 each with three goes. This ensures you don't glaze the pads by overheating them too quick. After that it will still take a few weeks to bed in fully on a road car, takes a days work at track. I am a fan of EBC pads, I have used their standard gold pads, green stuff and red stuff. They each perform well. QFM A1 work well too.

So when you get pads done, maybe get another local MX5 owner to help, I'm sure someone will be willing to lend a hand. That way you will know you have them bedded right.
A good idea on the back of the pads btw, is a product by CRC. Its a red goo that helps reduce vibration/noise. The part number is 5016, its a small red bottle. I've added a photo, hopefully it comes through.

The pads should be designed for what Im using them for. They are Hawk HP+ which is a street and track pad. Im not sure what the process was for the bedding in I was just told it was done. Im thinking its just the pad and the material they use to make the pad. Sounds like its Hawks in general since its not just mine making alot of noise. I think new pads and machine the discs and bed them in properly and hopefully they work just fine.

If not maybe its an excuse to get myself another mx5, one for weekend and track and the other for street... hmmmmmm :lol:

I rang Brakes Direct this morning and paid for a set of QFM A1RM brake pads for the front. They had a set on the shelf so they will be sent today and be here either today or tomorrow, gotta love free shipping :D

So Iv had another thought. When you get new pads in you bed them in on the street, obviously. I was wondering though, the first outing at the track with new pads should you go easy on them for a bit to bed them in furthr at the track or slowly get the heat into them or is it fine to just use them as per normal when on track?

I know with the Hawks they were bedded in on the street when new but first time at the track I just used them how you would when trying for a good lap time. Never really occurred to me that it might be best to go easy on them until you slowly build the heat up?

Anyone shed any light on this? Getting the QFM A1RM pads in on Monday and getting the discs machined. Next track day isnt too far away so wanna be sure with these pads to ensure they are bedded in right and hopefully work for me.

Once they are bedded in you can use them any which way you want. The bedding in process takes the first few layers off the new pad and also deposits a bit of material on the rotor.

Cool, thanks for clearing that up. I figured as much but thought since street driving vs track driving is very different I thought if the pads got put under a lot of heat and pressure straightaway I thought it could reduce its efficiency or something. Fingers crossed with these QFM's.
