Hawk HP+ - Squeel

For what it's worth, my experiences with Hawk HP+:

- on my NA6, no squeal issues. I don't think I did anything special apart from use normal brake grease.
- on my NA8, the pads had TERRIBLE squealing - pedestrians were staring at me everytime I pulled to a stop. The pads did however come with a little sachet of "GearHead High Temp Brake Parts Lubricant" so I cleaned off the old stuff and applied the GearHead stuff liberally between the pad and the shim. Seemed to eliminate most of it, at the rest went as the pads bedded in.

And yes, I can also confirm those HP+ pads are ridiculously dusty.

Further observation: Bendix Ultimates seem to have a much better initial bite. I guess it's not surprising that they chew through rotors though.

Good to know mine arent the only one's. Im really over these pads, I put some brake cleaner on last night to try and quiet them for a few days but, it done nothing this time round, they squealed on the first braking application this morning.

Not sure about the low on dust thing. Mine are really dusty, even on street use, a weeks worth of driving and my silver wheels turn gunmetal grey. After a track day they are black.

Good pad but they seem to work best under harder braking and higher temps that you dont see in day to day driving.

When the pads went in I put on new replacement rotors too, front and back were done but using genuine mazda pads in the rear.
I had them put in by a mx5 workshop so they should have put the grease etc on, they bedded them in for me.

Brakes still work really good but could the rotors or pads themselves be glazed if I have pushed them too hard at the track? Any way to tell?

With those QFM pads can I just ring them and get a set made or do I need to send them an old pad so they can use the backing plate thing? Sorry if that makes no sense but another pad I looked at ages ago for a different car was the same, you had to send them an old pad, they would take off any brake pad material and use the backing plate for the new material.

Need to do something asap as driving my mx5 every day with the brakes like this is so annoying and embarrassing lol thats how loud they are squealing.

Are 8B brakes the same as 8A brakes?

This is the part number for 8A brakes. QDB1282

QFM pads for a NB8B from GSL RallySport / Brakes Direct
Fronts are QFM GLS 022 A.1.RM
Rears are QFM GLS 023 A.1.RM

So the QFM A1RM is a quiet pad yea? I was told today that its near impossible to have a totally quiet pad. I was explaining what the Hawks were doing and how much excruciating noise they were producing, so they asked if I wanted a quiet pad, and I said yea. He basically laughed at me then and said its unlikely :/ I think thats bullshit it doesnt matter if the brake pad makes a little noise just dont want it to howl and be ear piercing like these hawks are.

I haven't noticed, I think they're too soft to be noisy.

Were the pads bedded in properly? Were the rotors machined before the new pads were installed?

I have had A1RM's and had no noise, nor win EBC Greens or Winmax W5/3's. Dust is another issue...

Same here. Obviously everyone's driving is different but how many of you have followed the bed procedure when fitting the hawk pads? If not done correctly I can cause issues with life , heat cycles and noise of the pads .
