Re: NC Track Car - In the Build
Danny, with the lithium battery do you need to anything to the wiring harness to be able to balance charge the battery cells from the alternator?
It could be a good option for me when the electrics start coming together for my car.

It is Tim! It's reminding me that I still need to sort out the front and rear sway bar design.

That's a good question Matt. The answer is that the lithium batteries in rc application are balance charged, but the automotive ones are designed to be charged from a standard alternator.

...and so the scene has been set...144 days and counting!!!

A little bit more progress this week which is timely considering the pressure is really on now!

The remaining steering components were machined and installed. The components are as follows:
Front upright steering arm bump steer correctors.

Steering link extensions.

Bump steer fine tuning adjustment spacers.

Steering angle limiter/balancer.

....and installed.

The wiring is still on the critical path...will see what this week brings.

Cheers,
Danny

Hi monty11ez, bump steer correctors were required because I fitted an aftermarket steering rack in a different position to OEM.
Progress this week has been all about bolt ons.

So we have a second set of wheels...
Fronts

Rears

WTAC Control Donuts

Front tyres

Rear Tyres

New 2-piece brake rotors for all four corners

To make the brake rotor and the wheel centre bores concentric a little bit of machining work was required. Four rings were machined up and the rotor hat centre bore increased to matach that of the wheel.

....and assembled.

New wheel nuts.

Fronts on.

....and rears on.

The car will be on display tomorrow at MR Tuning's Workshop Open Day. So if you don't have a better offer, feel free to drop by.

Shane Jones' FD RX-7 will also be on display.

Cheers,
Danny

Re: NC Track Car - In the Build
Hey Danny, so the rotor hat had a centre bore that was too small? Or the wheels had too large of a centre bore? If it was the wheels I didn't think hub centric spacers made any difference assuming you torqued the wheel properly.

Danny, what percentage of your cars have RPF1 wheels?

Danny, don't forget to take the centre covers out when racing......
CAMS requirement, and a good safety idea anyway.
The Enkeis are a great looking wheel, I will be getting three sets of the RPF1's for the S14 when it is time for 2 sets of bald tyres and one set of very very soft treaded tyres.

Tim, about 50% RPF1 and the other 50% BBS LM's.

Here are some photos of the car at MR Tuning's Workshop Open Day at the beginning of the month. Was a great day.

As the aero package design work has now been completed I've proceeded with the rear wing mounting structure.
Marking out where to slot the bodywork for the lower rear wing mounts to come through.

The RHS lower rear wing structure positioned for welding out.

The cooling system header tank and overflow has also been completed. It just needs to be suitably attached and plumbed.

The design of the intake plenum's removable section has also been completed with the raw materials expected to be received mid next week.

Cheers,
Danny

Re: NC Track Car - In the Build
What made you decide to mount the wing so far forward? Rather than mounting off the rear if the car.
I always wonder if a smaller (less drag) wing located further rear, would create the same downforce on the rear tyres, as one mounted as like yours. Also is that the ride height the car will be? If so, is that to make the undercar aero work?
Always look forward to progress pics on your car. One of the best engineered builds I have seen. Also, will you be driving the car, or have a pro?

The lower mounting point for the rear wing doesn't indicate the position of the wing element(s). I've positioned them there for load transfer and to suit the final panel work detail. Something that also needs to be considered is that the further you position a wing behind the rear axle the more it will reduce the front axle load. The vehicle doesn't have a lot of power available, so it is important that whatever downforce it has is utilised and drag minimised.

No, it isn't the final unladen ride height. It's been set there to make it easier to move around the workshop and for transport.

Couldn't imagine it surfacing James. No one in my TA circle has seen or heard anything since last October.
