aftermarket headunit help

Hi, ive replaced my oem headunit with a sony xplode one. Ive got the plug and play thing wired for it. However everytime i play cd or usb the antenna has to go up even though im not using the radio. Does anyone know how to cancel this option or the antenna going up. However i would still like to use my radio. Thanks.

I just wired in a switch fitted in to my dash that stops it extending every time. If I put the radio on I can still use the aerial.

did you use the antenna power wire and wired that to the switch?

Yeah basically just cut the wire and connected to each side of switch. I found a switch that sits flush and looks pretty much as if it was always there. I rarely listen to the radio but I wanted the option just in case ...

Another option, use this as a chance to change to stubby antenna.
That way, no antenna going up and down all the time.
Yet another option if you have ability to blank off hole, aerpro supply stealth kits that can mount underneath dash or seats. Very small and plenty of pick up.
Two that may interest you are:

Just a few thoughts outside the box.

Those hidden aerials are good actually. I fitted one to my Father in law's car about a year or so ago and just plugged the old hole in the fender with a rubber grommet that fitted neatly.

Are you sure you haven't wired it up to the remote amp turn on? Check the wiring diagram on the manual or get the multimeter out. On most aftermarket HU's there are two outputs. One for power aerial and one for amp turn on. On my Sony headunit, the amp power obviously shows voltage whenever the HU is on, but the aerial power lead on shows voltage when the radio function is selected. You might have inadvertently wired it to the wrong one, which will still work.

Depends on the HU as well. My Pioneer HU powers the aerial as soon as the HU powers up, irrespective of what is playing. I've a feeling all Pioneers do this, but don't quote me. An old Philips unit I had years ago only powered the aerial when the radio was selected.

It should say in the manual. If you don't have that, a circuit tester is the simplest way to tell which wire is active only when the radio is selected. Cheap tool from any auto parts or even Bunnings etc. A must have item if you are going to be doing wiring. Either that or a multi meter.

Just "Google" how to test a circuit...
