Boot lighting

Here's a question I asked myself today.

If the lights for the number plate are on the boot lid, then why don't they come on when the boot is open?

I only ask after looking for a bag in the boot at night, leaning forward and smashing my head on the boot lid.

Any ideas for boot lighting?
Either using the number plate lamps or otherwise?

Not on my laptop so can't find the link, but this has been done on Miata.net iirc.

Just Google and you'll find a "how to" ...

The OMGPham kit looks pretty neat, I like that it uses a release switch instead of trying to wire into another circuit.

Looks like $90 well spent.

does the boot get illuminated with the lid up and parkers on? A good plan - refer davemoore recently- have a small torch in the glove box or App on phone. Dave was right about the fuse box- bloody impossible to read it at night and at an angle.

It does, surprisingly well actually.

I tend to do this when I need to unload/load the boot at night

My SE lights come on when the boot is opened. And I swapped in LEDs, so it's really bright. Would be really easy to put in a switch to make normal NB's lights turn on.

Nice. I've been using a small magnetic/adhesive motion-sensing LED light (similar to this:http://www.infmetry.com/home-decor/lighting/motion-sensor-led-night-light) that I'd picked up for about $10 via COTD (or similar) a few months ago but it does get through batteries.

Sticky back led strip , active with in line fuse wired straight to the battery and the neutral hooked up to a "tamper/pin style" switch jaycar part no LE-8775. Drill a hole in the lip next to the seal wire up and a small bit of rubber etc on top to protect your paint.

Adjust and test it doesn't stay on. Done :-)

I tested it going off buy using the video recorder on my phone

Dad pulled the rear LED centre brake light from his VE, the other day because it stopped working.
The LEDs are still working but I'll be chopping/re-soldering the strip because there's no continuity across the main + and - terminals.
So somethings gone, but the LEDs are all good.

I'll combine the strip with a non latching switch.

Already have all the parts besides the switch.

Should be a good cheap project.

How about one of these Magic Touch Motion Sensor lights? Double-sided tape the backside and stick it to the boot lid.
Removal is straightforward just rip it out.

It's not like anyone can fit inside the boot to trigger the sensor and drain the batteries..
