Can't wait to hear it on videos - was at a track day 8-9 years ago with a friend with a Type-R (the proper one) with an exhaust (forget the details) that sounded like a cross between an old mid '90s 2.0 litre Super Tourer and a MotoGP bike. Utterly epic.

It's not rip your face off, but on a rainy night clutch kicking a stock MX5
engine I couldn't make anything happen maybe a different story now.

personally i think its value if you intend on making big horsepower.

there is just so much more potential in that engine.

Uses the stock gearbox so it wont make more power than a cheap 1.6 or 1.8 turbo build can make. This is for different reasons.

It's using the Stock Gearbox Now

Another choice is the S2000 Box which can mate up to the K easy as it would just need the output/prop shaft diff attended to. But it's not drastically better than the S15/NB8B/C option.

Ultimately will probably go with a 6 speed Sequential there is just no off the shelf option for Rotated K Series as non transaxle boxes. In the sub 400 nm torque range
they are priced in the objectionable rather than eye watering range.

First Track Day Shakedown.

We did about 50 laps at Wakefield today.

Engine pulls hard and was faultless, no sign of over heating :)

The Bad and the Optimistic
- DIFF is completely farked couldn't put the power down :(
- unknown brake pads and some vintage rotors not so great
- 10 year old TEINS
- farked bushes car barely drives in a straight line and doesn't brake in one
- 1060 kg weight kind of porky for a track toy.
- Sliding around on the leather seats is new and not any good.

Track was cold, greasy when it wasn't raining

that will do for excuses, best car managed was a 1:10.1 on some HANKOOK RS-3 tyres

Best Lap I got on the VBOX comparing it to my Racecar which was a 1:08.55
the speeds are faster in many parts of the track this is despite weighing 200 kg more than the racecar.

Will get the Suspension sorted, sort a fresh Diff get a few more kilos out of her
and get back out there for more.Very promising start hope to find a few seconds on the next outing.

Didn't realise this was your car, good seeing the car out there today though (I was in the Black NC).

Like you said it was definitely greasy when it was 'dry' today, I only managed to beat my PB by .5 with coilovers and a 4.1 FGR added (1:14.7) with two off track excursions.

The mounts and the whole setup looked really solid when I had a look and it sounded great, looking forward to seeing what time it does on a dry day :)

She still idles at 1100 rpm, it only gets "noisy" at 6000 plus from inside the VTEC is set to kick in at 3800
so no problems but Wakefield are quite agreeable noise wise, better test will be Marulan when I get up there.

WHITEY (NA8 Racecar, 880 kg 135 rwkw 8200 redline, Hankook Slicks)
PWR 6.5 kg per Kw

NB. on a Sunny Day with a full spool.
fastest VBOX recorded lap 1.08.55

from 100.03 kph -> 150.19

100.69 Elapsed 60.22 sec, distance 1882.61 m
150.19 Elapsed 67.21 sec, distance 2131.50 m

So it takes 7 seconds and 249 metres

and the RaceCar pulls ok will track down the video of Chris driving past Daniel in one of the 2.5 NC's

MONDA (NB8B StreetCar, 1060 kg 175 rwkw 8200 redline, Hankook RS3) PWR 6.0 kg per Kw

NB. on a greasy Day with an open sloppy diff
best recorded on VBOX 1.10.98

100.40 Elapsed 63.04 sec, distance 1887.63 m
150.56 Elapsed 68.42 sec, distance 2078.32 m

Thus 5.38 seconds and 191 metres or better put 15 MX5 car lengths :)

Expecting a little better traction once suspension and diff are sorted.

Just ordered a OS Giken Type X 1.5 Way differential they seem to be a good unit.

Should I go Final Drive of

3.9
4.1
4.3

4.1 seems to be the go but I do like the 4.3 bringing 5th gear into use a bit earlier.

Don't care about the Highway have VTEC to go into ecobox mode ;)

I would have thought the 3.63 would be enough given the power / torque you've got.

I wouldn't go for the 4.3 as I had the 4.1 which was great when the car was NA, but when the turbo kit was in, first was useless, second was short.

I've gone back to the 3.63 but I do find it a bit lacking, so maybe the 3.9?

I'd be inclined to agree with Apr and say that a lower Final Drive would be what you'd want given the high power.

Since you like crunching numbers though you could take your Final Drive and Tyre size, then look at your look at yout anticipated max speed on straights (to figure out what gear you will be in and if you can eliminate a shift) as well as your anticipated minimum speed in the corners (to see what RPM you will be at on exit which you can overlay with your torque curve) to determine the optimum Final Drive for your favourite tracks.
