MiataRoadster Six speed Shifter bush AMAZING

Postby WASP » Thu May 29, 2014 2:34 pm

Hi

I have installed a MiataRoadster shifter bush on my 6 speed, SE. Pt No MR-SS-13. The improvement in feel and gear change is nothing short of amazing. The gate is more defined and I now know which gear I am in.
The std unit, as you may know, is a simple clip on 'ring', this one is a bucket which slides into the selectors and the gear stick then sits in the bucket, easy as. When I first saw it I thought I had been sent the wrong one.
If you have a six speed BUY ONE, mine cost $25 delivered.
Cheers
A happy Steven :D

The whole short shifter is like 300 vs 25 for the bush, I'd say that makes the bush an economical option.

Agreed, the bush alone will tighten up the factory setup, particularly as it will have worn with age.

The SSK will transform the whole shift action and take it to another level.......

However, as WASP said above, if you have a 5-speed and it's ok there's probably no real benefit in moving to the 6-speed. There's a SSK available for the 5-speed too!

Mostly I wanted the 6 speed for the gearing advantages it might bring me on the track (says he who hath not visited a track in 2 years)... I know it isn't as nice a shifter as the 5-sp, but I read that the MR-SSK (don't you love acronyms) improves the feel substantially, and will help avoid mis-shifts.

Having swapped in the Miataroadster short shifter and longer shifter a few months back, I can safely say it was the single best improvement I've made to a vehicle. Ever.

...short of adding a working stereo to my first car.

I've never dríven a five-speed for any length, but the short shifter in the six-speed feels amazing. So much better than the 12 year old stock one that was on the car when I bought it.
Because reasons.

Huge fan here, I don't think it really shortened the throw of the gear stick (thank god) but it makes the box feel much closer to the 5 speed.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Link to the site where you purchased (if not MR)? $25 shipped sounds like a great deal :)

Thread revival .. hope to have that 6 speed shortly!
Looking forward to the 6 speed and MR SSK.
Hope it is as good (or nearly) as the 5 speed...
