Problem with rear brakes scraping with hand brake off
After a very spirited drive with a few mates last night I found this morning that my rear brakes are scrapping on the rotor after the hand brake is let off. With the hand brake and brake pedal let off the disks scrape, the sound is like a metal on metal sound. I had my pads checked December last year and they apparently had plenty of meat left on them if that matters. It feels as if the pads aren't retracting properly. I have found that lifting the hand brake up little sort of stops it. Does any one have some idea what could be going on?

Pebble jammed between the rotor and the stone guard.

Or slider pins catching because not well lubed?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Or the pads have worn down in the last 6 months of spirited driving......
Step 1: remove rear wheel and have a look!

Would giving the slider pins a spray with crc or sillicone spray work as temporary fix? Im pretty sure its the slider pins because when the brakes are pressed in rhe sound goes away.

then the brkae lines need a bleed.Mr Sexy wrote:Im pretty sure its the slider pins because when the brakes are pressed in rhe sound goes away.
or pads reset.
sounds like pads are making 100% contact without pressure, so pads are moving around slightly until piston pressures them.

Take them out and make sure there aren't any notches worn into them, add specific high temp brake grease (can get from most auto part stores).

I think I have this issue on my back left and I've just had my brakes done.
Time for a lube job

Re: Problem with rear brakes scraping with hand brake off
Had this problem myself. Here is the abridged version...
option 1, these are brakes (primary safety) if you are not mechanically minded then leave brake repairs to a professional
option 2, if you have mechanical aptitude and the right tools......try this
Hand brake lever on rear caliper was seized, remove caliper, remove adjustment bung, check if handbrake lever is free, if not then lube mechanical parts within caliper, rebuild caliper with caliper grease, got mine from autobarn. Adjust handbrake adjustment Allen screw, turn Allen screw in until brake binds with handbrake off, back off 1/3 to 1/2 turn, make sure pads are not binding. Check operation of handbrake.
