Fuel Tank Crack

Postby 1990MarinerBlue » Sun May 25, 2014 5:39 pm

My NA's fuel tank has developed a crack at the bottom. My mechanic has made a couple of attempts to patch it, but unfortunately it's only gotten worse (and no longer driveable). One option would be to remove the tank and weld it, as apparently it's not rusted. In any case, the cost of labour will likely be $1,000+ here in regional WA.

Mazda has indicated that a new tank would cost $380 and take three months to come.

I would appreciate any advice. Does anyone in WA have a tank they can sell me? Or if I can get the car to Perth, is there a pro/amateur mechanic who might do the job for less?

The car has done 430k, but has been resprayed and had its whole drivetrain and suspension replaced recently; so it might be worth repairing.

Have you tried any local wreckers?

If you can't find any locally, call these guys, pretty sure they're happy to post parts.

They've always looked after me.

Thanks guys. The local wrecker doesn't have any, but I haven't tried Perth or elsewhere in WA yet. Will definitely call those guys if I can't source one in WA.

Any recommended mechanics in WA?

Contact Steve Lee - if you search on Steve Lee on this forum you'll see that he's very highly regarded in WA for work on MX5s:
