There are a couple of sketchy areas you need to be aware of to...Going up the big wide car park you will be driving straight at the concrete wall of the footbridge, then you will be driving at a concrete wall in the chicane through to the drag strip and running the reverse of turn two can be tricky....it sweeps right and loads the car up but you will need to be on the brakes to turn left through the intersection.

unfortunately, I won't be at the next round, just too much motorsport to fit with the home life, doing a practice club Sprint evening at RAC on Sunday as the warm up for round 1 the following sunday, so the next Rally Sprint round would be right between them. It is a shame, I would like to run the reverse course.

Went to Barbagallo on Sunday to round 2 of the club events. An excellent event using the time attack format.

Pretty happy with the times I posted
Long Track : 68.147
Short Track : 56.819

I should have won the event, but there is a story tell - I threw the win away. Don't have time to explain right now, here is a video from the long track for you to watch. I will post my fireworks from the short track tomorrow

(GPS, speed and timing are a bit messed up on the video :)

So here are the fireworks

The story... in brief,

The event was a time attack using the long and short circuits at barbagallo, with the result being the total of your fastest times from each track. After all the runs are complete on the long track, I have managed to post the quickest time, which is surprising, but only by about 0.4 second. Onto the short track. After half the runs completed, again I have posted the fastest time. We are about to start the last 3 runs, the problem I have is the person that is closest to me is running further down the order and the way we are running means that I will have completed all of my runs before he starts, hence I cannot respond to a faster time. I have about 0.5 in hand again, but should I go for a faster time. The racer in me says yes and I think there is a faster time in the car anyway. I decide to try a different line into turn one, the new line start with me braking a bit later, but I lock up a bit. I am not sure whether I can make the corner, so I decide to go straight and just use an extra bit of tarmac there is before the sand trap. No good though, both wheels drop in to the sand. Ok not a problem? Needing to get dragged out of the sand carries a 5 second penalty :( - lets say that I was not overly happy with myself  In the end I did not need a faster time, but hay that is how things go some times.

It's not actually a video of me going off, but of some other fireworks (you will see) - checked the like and played the vid, seems ok.

Yeah, checked the pads - probably got about 2/3 left on them, so I think it is just a characteristic of the pad material.

fitted some new intercooler pipe work and a dump valve today. I did not have time to sort out the re-circulation though. Thankfully it does not sound like a trapped bird :)

Intake Temp Sensor bung, complete with half decent welding.

Finished fitting.

I have started the process of getting my car engineered. I have a list of things to sort out, one of which is to re-circulate the BOV (see pics below). No more whooosh - it is all very quiet now.

There is nothing really major on the list of jobs and I was quite surprised at the things that will go through the engineering process. For example, you are allowed an adjustable brake bias valve, as long as you cannot adjust it while driving. Jobs 1 and 2 complete today - BOV re-circulation and more solid intercooler mounting.

Next on the list is welding spreader plates to the floor pan for the passenger seat and mounting my Roll Bar in a compliant way (more bolts required).

I have not had the TIG out for some time - not the best welding in the world, but happy enough given the lack to practice.

Does that catch can pass emissions?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Yes, Brake Test done - no problems.

It is not on my list of things to fix - so hopefully.

I have to silence it a bit - measured 98db at 4000rpm :D

Actually no - here is most of the solution, just waiting for a cap to replace the filter. Basically re-plumbed the PCV to the catch can and another hose to the intake pipe ahead of the turbo. I have one way valves in the right places, so that when the engine is producing vacuum it only draws from the crank case and not the inlet pipe and when on boost it does not pressurise the crank case, but the crank case is ventilated to the inlet pipe.

Also got a suzuki cappuccino washer bottle installed.

A couple of vids from the MX5 club WA sprint event last sunday. We had some wet running, which was fun. Had a blast

Wet run

Fastest run of the day

The car is going to be out of action for a month or so, while I do the rest of the compliance work.

Ahhh, now I see where you were quicker than me ... everywhere!

Great driving Si, what's that groaning sound as you're parking your car?
