Varex muffler on an MX5?

Postby s-mx5-s » Sun May 18, 2014 3:30 pm

Hey guys,

Just after some confirmation on this - I am about to get an Xforce Varex exhaust installed on my NB - however when getting a quote the guy at the exhaust shop told me that there was no way I'd have any ground clearance considering the height the varex motor sits above the actual muffler.

Although I have heard of several people having these fitted in the past... can anyone shed some light on this?

This is the exact model I'm looking at getting, MX5 is at stock height too for reference.

Thanks

Grind off the motor and manually open close it?

I assume you are aware that they are illegal on the public roads?

Your muffler guy is either lazy or lacks imagination, I have done a bunch and can get them to sit nice and tucked up perfectly :)

Here is an example of one I did, and some text about how happy he is with the varex.

Also a photo to show clearance, I couldnt find the really good picture I wanted to find but this gives an idea.

This is a 3" system also.

If the muffler in the ebay pic the the right one, why not just mount it like the ebay pic with the motor on the side?

Just get the measurements and then climb under the car with a tape measure, that should tell you how far it will hang.

Hi s-mx5-s,

I've VERY recently designed an exhaust.. that i can say.. is LEGAL, meets emissions and acts very similar to the varex and costs less and has NO clearance issue. I'll pm you now about it.

And the one on ebay is a fake.
The issue with fakes are for one they can screw up and stay open, their valve can get stuck open/closed, very slow moving motor, they are prone to water damage, prone to rust, they do not give the same SOUND TONE of the varex.

Cheers.

You would think its not difficult to get dimensions of the unit- bit of a worry that its a fake accordirg to slim. If magpie is right about the legality there could be a number of repercussions.

I can't say it's definitely fake but 99% chance >

X-Force Mufflers all have 3-Modes.

Few other things to notice about the ad.

-he's not using info direct from XForce (he either isn't authorized or it is a fake)
-the YouTube link is set to French (wtf?lol) - ALSO it's linked to a REPOSTED Video and not the video by XFORCE channel
-VAREX XForce is made in Australia - well at least the WAREHOUSE is here (how is this guy selling for CHEAPER from outside Australia)
---
This model doesn't seem to exist on the XForce website?

To be honest it's probably not all that bad but it's too expensive for a fake the original was like $600 or so.

PWR are cheaper outside Australia, perhaps Xforce has the same stupid business model.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
