Replacing or refurbishing SE steering wheel

One of the shops working on the car recently has managed to take enough of a slice out of the leather on the steering wheel for it to be annoying.

I've looked at covers and they're all just horrible.

Has anyone had any experience of sewing on one of the eBay kits? How much hassle was it and how good was the result?

Or does anyone have a black leather wheel for sale preferably with red but possibly black stitching?

For the avoidance of doubt, yes I do want to keep the airbag and will appreciate advice on how to do that if I swap wheels, even if the advice is to take it to a specialist.

Dave,
Have you spoken to a motor trimmer? and I recall a steering wheel bloke in either Oakleigh or Clayton that did leather, PVC, pearl etc. I am sorry, but I cannot recall furher detail.

I've enquired about re-wrapping my wheel in leather before - it's about $300-400. So I'd go for a used SE wheel in good condition.

Boyracer is stripping out an SE and usually has a bunch of spares lying around. Why don't you check with him?

I bought a steering wheel cover from redlinegoods to match my doortrim, handbrake and gearstick gaiters.

It looked way too fiddly to stitch myself and took a LONG time to even find a professional who would do it since they take a long time to stitch. I'm happy with the result but he said that it would have been even easier if he made it himself since the redlinegoods cover was extremely tight to fit.

ie. Don't be surprised if it takes a while to find someone who will fit it and do let them make the cover themselves.

I bought one off ebay and stitched into onto my NB to hide the wear marks. I'm not home for a week to take photos, but it turned out pretty well and has been on there for a good year now. It is quite time consuming to stitch on, it took maybe a little over an hour and half. I'll have to dig through my ebay to find exactly what it was but i was pleased with the result. If you're in no rush ill take some photos and post up when i get back from work.

If so how'd it go and could you supply some pictures of the results?
