Wasn't trying to be specific. NA6 probably puts out 55/60 kw. Just want a little but more, say 15/20 kw. Was hoping to achieve that before considering cams/ecu and I want more than my brothers stock NA8 ;)

33% increase in power (natutally aspirated) without an ECU will be impossible (puts on flameproof clothes)

Decide on the ECU you want to use and possibly the tuner if not using Tuner Studio.
However have a plan and a budget. Then add at least another 33% to the budget for contingencies.

I would have said a Haltech PS1000 . Just because it is what I have and it is supplied and supported by a forum sponsor.
Other options are Adaptronic, again they are a forum sponsor and from the posts made on here very well supported.
Well if Danny can put a Motec m84 in his build then it would be good enough for a humble MX5.

That changes the game in a big way. If I go ms3 I'm guessing I could ditch the MAF. Hmmm maybe some head work, deleted MAF and a ms3 tuned to suit. Do you think that I'd get 15 to 20kw with those mods plus my extractors/exhaust and CAI?

Speed I'll pass on that answer. Maybe Gladiator will chip in (or somebody else) as to what a ms3 can do. I would still say dome head work would be needed.

Yep I was including the headwork. Really is a difficult question as head work can vary big time. Pretty sure that the ms3 runs off a MAP sensor. Thanks anyways

ms3pro - best bang for buck, lots of I/O's, lots of peer support. SD card data logging which is freaking awesome!
Motec m84 - the affordable motec - reasonable amount of I/O's, great logging and data analysis, great support from Motec.
Why not the adaptronic or the haltech?
The haltech - I have a PS1000 in my car and it is not bad, but once you factor in an aftermarket O2 sensor and controller it gets pretty close to the cost of an m84 - which can control O2 sensors it's self. The on board data logging is setup in a stupid way WHICH ANNOYS THE SH!T OUT OF ME!
The adaptonic - 440 universal - No on board data logging (IIRC), more expensive than the ms3pro but doesn't really have the I/O's or options to match, I don't find it's layout as user friendly as the haltech or motec. It does have great support from Adaptronic though which is a massive +

Adaptronic has better IO then the platinum sport by a fair margin. Can log to a phone with the app.

Thanks for the reply Plohl. The decision to use the Haltech for me was that it is what GT Auto work with, hence it is best to use an ECU that is supported by your tuner.
Speed these are the sorts of decisions that you should be thinking about. Decide the ECU, tuner then the rest of the build.
Also consider how much data you want to log as this will influence your decision. For me I have some small regrets with going with an Innovate data logging. If I had to do it again I would have budgeted for a logging dash with inbuilt GPS as well as something like Smartwire, Motec PDM's or Isis wiring systems. However this would have added significantly to the cost, a rough guess over $7k when labour and sensors are included.
The Innovate has costs a lot less, allows up to 32 channels to be logged, but I have to manually merge the data with the GPS data. However, I also use the Vbox Lite which logs GPS, accelerometer data, lap time etc and over lays on the recorded video. Additionally it can record/overlay RPM and either 4 CAN channels from the PS1000 or 4 x 5 volt linear sensors.
So many decisions and options.

If you are going ecu route (which imo is necessary to get any real gains above single digit gains) then fitting a set of mild cams on your std head is more cost effective than headwork, to achieve your desired results
A set of drop in cams are $400ish, add some adj cam gears for $180 and you'll easily get your 20kw gain without needing to open the motor much more than lifting the rocker cover.
As a guide (on an NB8A, but still partially relevant to your NA6) I gained 8rwkw with intake/full exhaust, 15rwkw with intake/exhaust/ecu and 30rwkw with intake/exhaust/ecu/cams on stock head.
