BP4W Head mods

Postby DarrylA » Thu May 15, 2014 5:06 pm

Hi guys.
I need some advise on what I should do to a bp4w head for fast road and some track day use.
Currently have extractors, a 2 1/2 system with a race cat, and cold air induction.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

How fast do you want to go?

There was a ninja edit in there somewhere :)

Well the more head work you do, the faster you will go but it is expensive business. Head work and cams are somewhat pointless without an aftermarket ECU though, as your real gains will be with cams, head work and tuning put together. The more work you do and the bigger you go with cams, the more power you will have once you tune.

There is no simple answer to your question!

You could always buy my worked VVT head and cams, and combine with an ECU and tuning for awesome gains :)

NA or FI?
Piston size?
A BP4W can go to a 2.1 ltr if needed.
What is your budget!

Don't want to touch bottom end.
It,s a strong 1.8 so just seeing what's achievable with some good head work incl cams

Head/cams will require an aftermarket ECU.

Have you decided on your ECU and what sort of cams you want to run? It is possible with the head and ECU I have to run a 304 deg cam and have it idle at around 1,000 rpm. However at the moment it is running 288 deg cams (with the base circle reduced and the ramp angle softened).

Whilst mine has 85mm pistons, racing beat extractors/exhaust and a few other mods, it does make 182 RWHP naturally aspirated, is this what you are after?

If you get up to Blackwater then not a problem :) However, I do spend some time with the car in Brisbane. I'll post a video from a recent QR session so you can understand the addictive sound of ITB's.

From the inside. This was also a test of merging the Vbox video/GPS data with the Innovate data logging. Missing from the video are the 2 ride height sensors. They need to be given a more stable 5v source due to the draw of them. The Innovate 5v may not be able to supply enough current. However I picked up a couple of 8" linear sensors today for a bargain price so I may install them on the front or the rear coilovers. Thanks everybody for the strut bar argument in my build thread as I never would have found these cheap sensors! I once considered them but at almost $300 each I decided against them. No I just need to find another 2...

Front the pit wall of QR, go to about 20 secs in.

Just noticed the cyl temps 1,3 and 4 are the same. Template now fixed, it is not worth updating another video with the fix unless somebody is interested in the exhaust temps.
