Its my birthday on the 25th, so id love to come out and enjoy my first real track experience
I've been on the track for drifts and happy laps, vs real racing/sprints. Might be blind but what do I need to do to the car to compete (battery stickers, fire extinguisher etc.) so I can get organised. I'll need to get onto it tomorrow. thanks
I'm sure the information is there but how serious is this i.e people competing for points etc?
thanks.

Re: MX5 CLUB OF QLD QR TRACK DAY 26 MAY 2014
No need for battery stickers, fire extinguisher is a nice to have, but not compulsory.
The club day, at least in the lower groups daily drive cars are used so as long as your car is roadworthy then it will not have a problem.
Some people take it very seriously and compete for points etc, however there are others who just enjoy the outing. For me it is a fun day and I like to run in group 4 as I can try different lines and not run the risk of upsetting the people who are playing for sheep stations.
Come out and enjoy the track and the company. A lot of the members are only too happy to give advice and answer questions. I'll be there in a blue/silver NA6, hopefully with the number 50.
The club website has info, such as ankle/wrist clothing etc.

It will be great to catch up again Magpie, please tell Tess I'm thinking of her and looking forward to our next coffee together
Car is ready, running for the first time with a hardtop, have to check I can get in and out with my helmet!
Also we should have at least 2 Toyota 86's running, maybe 3 - please make them feel welcome!! Mike has run his black 86 with us last February at Lakeside and Tony will be having his first ever run apart from 'happy laps'

Cookie,
Look here http://www.mx5clubqld.com.au/?page_id=33
Also, look at the first post of this topic for paperwork links.
Pay attention during the driver's briefing. There is usually a supplementary session for first timers, often followed by some low(ish) speed sighting laps.
First timers usually start in group four, and this can be adjusted during the day (either within the group or moving to another group).
The most hotly discussed setup topic is tyre pressures, and there are innumerable opinions. My suggestions is...
Ask here first. Be very specific about the brand/model/size of your tyres. Some one will provide you with a good starting point.
On the day, after you have done all your preps, and had your first run, find people in with similar cars/tyres/etc and ask what their setup is. Most people will share, and the day becomes a social and driving event.
Also, some other tips for having a good day.
Get your times asap after each run (from Driver's briefing room), and ensure you are in the right position in the line up. If you get held up, stay calm. Don't feel pressured to overtake. Just ensure you are in front of them in the next line up. Be listening for the group call ups, or you will end up on the tail every time. You will quickly figure out the system, which is very efficient.
If you have a good chase with someone, go and introduce yourself. You'll both be buzzing.
Don't get too caught up in the technical aspects. Get your tyres OK-ish, watch what others are doing, and stay inside your ability zone. Don't overthink it. MX5s provide heaps of driver feedback, so listen/feel what the car is telling you, drive accordingly and you'll have fun without dramatics. Start slow and aim to improve a little each session. Focus on being aware, safe and totally in control and the speed will come as the confidence in yourself and the car increase.
Take plenty of water and don't forget to drink it.
Food is usually available at QR, but choice is limited.
There is air available at QR.
No fuel at QR. Nearest servo's are about 5klm away, towards Brisbane. If you don't have jerry cans, arrive with 3/4 or full tank.
The MX-5 crowd , and our non-MX-5 brethren, are a very welcoming bunch. The focus is on fun. I am sure you will have a great day.

Re: MX5 CLUB OF QLD QR TRACK DAY 26 MAY 2014
Fantastic. Group 4 represent! Hopefully my rim will be repaired and returned next week. Will be good to try out the settings on the konis.
I'll be running 205/50/15 ad08r on 15*7. I've had them at 28-34 psi and going up the mountains 28 cool/warm has provided a good amount of grip. No idea what that means regarding the track.
Please come say hello, I'll be in Ron's old nimble bee. (like a bumble bee, only quicker )
Thanks everyone for your help thus far!
Last year I was generously given a learn to drift day at qr. Coming from a fwd 323 was a huge learning experience! Still scared of the rear losing traction!

Not sure what car that was of Rons' I knew the green NB and then the yellow NA
Just havee the run with what power you have, you will find the car totally different on the track being able to get right up in the revs even with a standard engine - I run my NB and the engine is total stock, but nice and sweet up around the 6500-7000rpm
See you there - car #141 silver NB8A with hardtop, 6UL's Kumho KU36's etc etc

Roger, with luck Tess could be at the track day so you can pass your thoughts on directly!
Which group will you be running in Roger?
Cookie as mentioned tyres pressures are hotly debated. If the are street tyres around 40 hot as a general guide. The briefing is very important and Doug always has new drivers stay back for extra info. When on the track use your mirrors, if being overtaken hold your line as it is the responsibility of the overtaking car to do it safely. With respect to overtaking there is normally only 2 places at QR, the main straight and the short straight down to turn 6. Again Doug will explain all this.
Again there is no pressure on you, just enjoy yourself and exceeding the speed limit with no police presence.

It's the yellow na6.
Are there facilities (that work) for bumping up tyre pressures at the tyre shop? Anyways it's trivial, I'll just concentrate on following someone else and not blow my car up chasing the quickest one!

Still a very good idea to have them right Ryan. Under will make the car wallow and you risk rolling a tyre off the rim under heavy corner load. Over will make the car skatey and you'll wear down the centre pretty quickly. Dunno which tyres you've got on, but if they're reasonable roadies, I'd guess minimum 34psi hot.

Bring a tyre pressure gauge just in case. You may find that 32 hot is a bit low. You may also find that the left side tyres become sginificantly hotter with higher pressures at the end of the first session.

Re: MX5 CLUB OF QLD QR TRACK DAY 26 MAY 2014
14 DAYS TO GO!!
make sure you get all your paperwork sorted out and have it ready as soon as the Officials arrive and set up
Closest fuel is at Willowbank Matilda - there is a BP on the right before the Amberley turn off if looking for 98 octane, air is available at the track - if you don't have a tyre gauge there will always be someone in pit lane that is happy to lend you theirs!
See you all in just over 14 days!

I received my CTP extension today. Now to pay when I get paid this week then just got the usual to do (oil change, quick check over etc) Get my roll bar and sparco seat fitted Monday coming, so excited to feel the difference it makes at the track, with the seat atleast.
