Valve/Rocker cover gasket might need replacing.
Not hard to do, here is a guide if you want to attempt it yourself:

Here's another one with larger pictures:

You can purchase a new gasket from Mazda, MX5 Mania, MX5 Factory, Ebay etc
If you're not confident in doing it yourself, any mechanic should be able to do it. Alternatively, take it to somewhere like MX5 Factory and get them to supply and fit it.

It's about a 5 - 10 minute job. Make sure you get a genuine Mazda gasket. Most aftermarket ones leak from new.

make sure you put some red colour sticky stuff in between the gap before you put the cover back on.

Use auto RTV silicone sealant only on the points shown.

that is from an old outdated NA6 manual. If you look at any manual from 94 onwards, you'll bee adding more sealent.manga_blue wrote:Use auto RTV silicone sealant only on the points shown.
Not that the older way doesn't work. I just think mazda having failing cover seals just decided to make you add move for a extra fail safe.

I've never seen Mazda recommend blanket bombing with silicone before. I wish it would make up its mind. This is copied from the Mazda factory NB8B workshop manual.

Actually this is from the factory NB8A one. I'm wondering where yours came from?
