JAP NATS 2014 - May 24 - QLD RACEWAY
Anybody else going? Would be a good warmup/shakedown for the club track day on the Monday.

As I said in the PM ausbuoy drop by and say hello. Also interested to hear what work Dann has done for you as Lokiel speaks highly of what Dann did for him. However it would be nice to have more naturally aspirated and not a forced induction.
ausbuoy also think about the MX5 Car Club track day on 26/05/14 as this will give you some more shake down time. $125 (if a member) for about 4-5 sessions (4 flying laps + a warm up/cool down).
http://www.qldraceways.com.au/all-jap-national-titles For the QR info. However it is being run by Paul Ruzic paulruzic@iinet.net.au (041 112 7374 http://www.timeattack.com.au), cost is $200.
Here is the email from Paul.

Have you checked the rules for the categories mark? I know my car falls between the street and performance catagory.

I'm screwed because of the rear difusser so, I'm in Outright Class. Technically the Project G vented windos would force me out of Performance class as well. I could remove the diffuser and vented windows, but since there are no sheep stations up for grabs I'm content to focus on improving lap times not beating anybody in the outright class. If my times get good enough the be competitive in the Performance class I may just remove the rear diffuser or at least take the fins off. With the fins off nobody would know
Performance Class
4. Must have OEM glass. This includes all windows in the car.
12. Basic aerodynamic aids are allowed. Single element rear wings and extended front lips (splitters), basic air dams and small canards. Rear diffusers are not permitted unless factory fitted.

Great Day! Heaps of MX5's.
Congrats to Tim, 3rd in his class as well as made the top 10 shootout.
I went under 1:08 and was consistently doing 1:08's so wrapped! I did not take any tyre temps/pressures, the setup of the car remained untouched from the last track day with the exception of the tune and the alignment. Stopped worrying about turn 1 and 2 and just sat in the seat and drove the car! And it worked, including the encouragement from others to get under 1:08. Plan is to get consistently under 1:07's.
This photo got the tick of approval from Doug. His words went announcing the top 10 (Tim's name) was that there has to be at least 1 MX5 in the top 10!

Good job on the time improvement Mark. Dunno if I have much chance of magically finding enough time on Monday to catch that
Looks kinda like he's had a few too many after a night out.

I just looked, my previous PB was 1:08.79, however this was the only time I got under that. Today 10 laps under that time, the best being 1:07.9389, so more than happy with the car and the day.
Also good to catch up with yourself, and the rest of the MX5 people.

It was second actually Mark . Too bad a couldn't get the oversteer sorted to try and chip away at the time a little more.
It was a fun day and I was very please to just crack into the top 10 even with the handling issues, a little bit of power certainly helps with that though It's really cool to get to represent the MX-5 crowd in an event like this. Also very pleasing to do it in a car that has been knocked up in my spare time in the back shed!
I got put into the wrong group, probably due to some old data that timeatack had on file, so I got mixed up with plenty of slower cars to overtake. It wasn't good for getting clear track but since it was all over the place anyway I did have a heap of fun overtaking several cars which were probably quite surprised to have an MX-5 coming by!
Cheers,
Tim

I was wondering why you were down there. When Jarred in the S14 fits in group C, you know it's a fast field, but you are still a step above that at the very least :p

Re: JAP NATS 2014 - May 24 - QLD RACEWAY
Yeah I didn't bother going and swapping groups in the morning since I had to bed some brakes. Second session I went out at the front of the group and only had to pas 1 or 2 people towards the end of the run so I figured I would just stick with it as long as i got clear track. Then later on they bumped a couple of people from group D which made group C very busy so I just moved myself up to B, that was not much better so I ended up going out with A and had good clear air again.
