Re: NatMeet Track Day - 14 Apr 14
Thanks to all, I had a great day (red NA #56), the briefing scared the crap out of us 1st timers. All my runs except the last one had the wipers running so I was pleased to get a 1:10 on the last run. Could have had one more go but decided to stop while the panels were straight and the red mist had not appeared.
Great comeradery in the pits.

Great that you had the chance to experience Lakeside!! I hope you had a good trip home - correct me if I'm wrong but you also joined in for coffee after the track at the BP! It's days like last Monday that confirm why I have an MX5! Well make that TWO!!
Nothing wrong with a 1:10 on your first time there

Remember the name and car and was sure you were there for coffee! That's one immaculate NA!!
Yesterday that road north was at a standstill!
If you go to the MX5 Club QLD facebook site -there is one of Ross's pics of 'donuts & coffee' posted

CB. The carousel is a bit tricky if you get on the power too early or don't hit the apex late. Especially on road tyres. LOL
The next time your at Lakeside I think you will nock a second or two off your time by going through both sections of the Carousel with a constant lock and drifting out wide on the entrance to the straight unwinding after a late apex. I.e enter the straight at the highest possible speed by reducing lock and using all the track.

Fully agree on the lines John.
Being on road tyres and wanting to drive home made me cautious into the main straight. Later in the day I started getting the line into Carousel a bit better but the grip on the road tyres went off as I foolishly didn’t check the pressures after I put 37psi cold into them at the start of the day. When I let them down to drive back to Caloundra they were into the mid 40’s and that’s well above their best pressure.
Here's a long clip of the full 4th session.

Well done Phil!! Excellent effort for someone there for the first time! Considering the tyres I'd love to see what you could do on your 'normal' track tyres
Thanks for the full vision, I'm off back to watch that again!!

Great video Phil. I was really looking forward to you catching me up so I could see my lines (me red NA). But instead you can see the moment when I ran out of fuel, and you blew past. Sigh.

Crickey Phil! That was a scary one. Could see it coming when you turned in too soon. So glad it turned out OK and damaged nothing but your undies.
